I have been searching for the clues to sort out where my great-grandfather, Charles Burdick (b: 22 May 1872) fits into the Burdick lineage. I discovered a newspaper article from Marysville, CA, dated in 1920, reporting his death – thanks to a person who I now know is my 9th cousin via Burdick. I ordered and received his death certificate. He died 5 August 1920 from an accidental fall resulting in fracture of the spine and death that same day. He was a Blacksmith and a Cement Finisher. His parents were Ed Burdick (b: New York) and Harriet Castlemen (b: Michigan) based on the spelling on the death certificate. The actual spelling from genealogy searches (RootsWeb) shows the spelling as Casselman. Charles had a brother in Truckee and a brother in San Francisco when he died according to the newspaper article.

I began tracing my genealogy this year and through the help of the "RootsWeb's World Connect Project: They Came to Milton" by Jon Saunders, I quickly found that I am a descendant of Robert Burdick. The World Connect Project went as far as to my grandmother, and I had information to complete my lineage which is as follows:
Robert Burdick and Ruth Hubbard
Benjamin Burdick and Mary Reynolds
William Burdick and Sarah Edwards
Daniel O. Burdick and Temperance Hall
Daniel O. Burdick Jr. and Elizabeth Stillman
John Addison Burdick and Lydia Stannard
Ina Adelaide Burdick (my grandmother) and Rolla Raymond Morey
Rolla Raymond Morey Jr. and Mabel Vera Plumb
Arthur Raymond Morey (myself)
I never met my grandmother, but I did meet two of her sisters, Adell "Della" Burdick and Eva Burdick Wanamaker living in Albert Lee, MN in 1955. They were 89 and 87 then. Ina Burdick had seven children; Claire Leslie Morey and Jay Newton Morey born in MN, Nellie Bly Morey, Dean Dewitt Morey, Litta Marie Morey, Rolla Raymond Morey, and Millicent Maxine Morey born in Medford, OR.

My dad is Michael Burdick, my grandfather was Duane Burdick, and my great-grandfather was William Burdick. All were born in South Dakota. I was born in Georgia. I've lived in San Diego for 13 years. I love it here. I'm an office manager downtown and a part time student. I have a sister Allison. My GP had alot of family history books and was trying to find as many Burdicks as possible. He would tear out the page in the phone book with Burdick on it and write letters to them. He got a lot of letters and pictures back and kept them in a book. I go threw it once a year and try to update as much as I can.

We're eager to find any relatives of my wife's great-great-great grandfather, Edward Burdick who lived in the area around Port Jervis, NY, and the Griffin family from whom my wife is also descended:
Edward Burdick (listed as Edwin on one or two census records) b. 1811-1814 PA or NY, d. 30 Jan 1899 Godeffroy, Orange, NY, buried Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, Orange, NY.
married Emeline Casselman (occasionally listed as Conzelman), b. 17 Mar 1833 PA or NJ, d. 1 Apr 1885, buried Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, Orange, NY.
They had the following children (and possibly others?):
James Burdick, b. 1853-1854 NY, died before his father did.
Catherine Burdick, b. 1855-1856 NY, died before her father did.
Clara Burdick (my wife's great-great-grandmother), b. 1857 (Watertown?), NY, d. 16 May 1926 Staten Island, NY (but lived most of her life in Huguenot, Orange, NY with her husband Albert W Griffin)
Elizabeth "Libbie" Burdick, b. Nov-Dec 1859, d. 5 Jun 1916 Godeffroy, Orange, NY (married Lorenzo Franklin "F L" Griffin, a cousin of Clara's husband Albert)
Louisa/Louise Burdick, b. Apr 1862 (probably actually 1861) NY, m. Newton Fisher, lived at South Orange, NY at time of Clara's death.
Maurice Burdick, b. Aug 1862 NY, m. Fanny D Unknown, lived in Binghamton, NY at time of Clara's death.
Mary Burdick, b. 1864, m. Cornelius DeWitt, lived in Binghamton, NY at time of Clara's death.
Edward Burdick Jr., b. 16 Jun 1867 (Orange Co, NY?), d. 28 Dec 1888, buried in family plot at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
Cora A (or E) Burdick, b. Oct 1869 NY, m. James H Dutton, living in New York City at time of Clara's death.
(Della J?) Burdick, b. c. 26 Dec 1875, d. 5 Apr 1876, buried in family plot at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
The Laurel Grove Cemetery was subject to flooding and possibly vandalism. Edward Sr.'s tombstone is gone, and Emeline's is propped up several feet from its likely original location. Della's is very hard to read.
Port Jervis, NY is at the spot where PA, NJ, and NY come together, and many families would show up in PA (Pike County) or NJ (Sussex County) on some individual census years.
The Burdick and Griffin families migrated from Sullivan County to Orange County in the mid-1800s. Edward Burdick was living in Forrestburgh, Sullivan, NY in 1860, Lackawaxen, Pike, PA in 1870, and Port Jervis, Orange, NY in 1880. Albert Griffin was in Forrestburgh in 1860, went to live with his married sister in Deerpart (Huguenot), Orange, NY in 1870 after the death of his father (his mother died in the 1850s), then moved to Montague, Sussex, NJ for the 1880 census, eventually settling back in Huguenot.
I can't find a definitive match for Edward Burdick in the 1850 census. Given the difference in ages between Edward and Emeline, it's possible she was his second wife, but his obituary made no mention of this, and there were no children from a previous marriage in the household in the 1860 census.
We're grateful for any help anyone can provide...

Sebring, FL, USA - Tuesday, October 2, 2007
I am not related to the Burdick family, but live in a Sebring, Florida bungalow built circa 1925, and I would like to know more about the people who built it. The 1926 Sebring City Directory lists a Myra E. Burdick as resident, occupation "music teacher."
A circa 1920 promotional brochure for Sebring, FL contains a letter from a Mr. H.W. Burdick of Cleveland, OH, who gives his occupation as "wholesale jeweler." His company seems, from the little research I have been able to do, to have been in existence in the later 1940s. The letter states that he and his wife own a lot in Sebring and plan to build on it soon. The map in the brochure shows that my home had not yet been built.
Myra E. may be the wife referred to in the letter of H.W. Burdick, or she may be his sister, daughter, other relation, or no relation at at all.
If you have any additional information about H.W. or Myra E. Burdick, I would be quite grateful.

I am looking for anyone that knows anything about a World War II casualty - Carl Burdick. He was married to my Mother, Imogen Milliren, before shipping out in World War II. He was the father of my sister, SueAnn. She had two children. She died in 1964. Her now adult children are still living and are interested in finding out information about their grandfather. It is my understanding that he died over the China Hump in WWII. thanks!

Residing in UK - Friday, August 24, 2007
My name is Richard B Burdick, born in Torrington, CT on Aug 14, 1957 (Now residing in the UK), Son of Richard G. and Virginia (Borla) v also of Torrington (both now 81 tears of age). Uncles were Russel and Harry, both now deceased.
Grandfather was William Burdick, brother of George, from the New Hartford, CT area. Their father remarried, and when they were approx 14 years of age, were sent to work on local farms. William became a milkman and worked for the Torrington Creamery. He was the first in the area to use a motor vehicle for milk deliveries. I do not know what became of George. I am interested in tracing my family's genealogy, and any information in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

I am a descendant of Asa Burdick and Elizabeth White who settled in Cambridge Springs, Crawford PA around 1820. The Nellie Johnson book states that Asa was 'probably' the son of Benjamin Burdick and Martha Huling but I have found no evidence thus far to either prove it nor to suggest he is from another line. He was 'at sea' for approx. 10 years (his first 3 children born there), so records of his early days are scarce. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My father is Steven Michael Burdick, born in 1945, from Miami, Florida. His father's name, I believe, was Harold Aitken (or Aiken) Burdick, born in 1901, died in 1985 -- unfortunately I never did meet my grandfather, and I'm not sure what part of the States he was from, although for some reason I'm thinking Rhode Island. I would be quite happy if I could find any relatives.

I am looking for any information about my great, great, great grandmother whose name was Phebe (Phoebe) Burdick Vance. The last record I have of her is that, in 1903, she resided in Mt. Victory, Hardin County, Ohio. I located her husband John Vance and a few of her children (Elizabeth b.1847, and Minny b.1867) at a graveyard (York Cemetery) near Marysville, Ohio, but there were no records of her and I cannot find what happened to her. My great grandfather was William Findlay Vance b.1861 and he is buried in Mt.Victory. Phebe was the daughter of Hezekiah Burdick and Mary (Polly) Richey, and I found their graves in Buxton Cemetery, Union County, Ohio (also near Marysville). I would appreciate any information you might have.

My grandfather's death certificate listed his mother as Arminda Burdick and all the census records I have seen for my g-grandparents list them as Daniel Hawley and Arminda (Arminta) Burdick. My father's family also used the Holley spelling, so it gets confusing. A cousin has found a listing on the LDS web site for a Daniel Holley and Laurie Arminta Burdick having a daughter born 1 May 1866. There are two postings, one with Laurie Arminta as wife and one with Leurie Arminta. The child in one posting is Josephine Ester Holley and in the second is Josephine Ester Ferguson Holley. Both born the same day in Springville, PA. I would find it most odd if there were two Daniel Hawley/Holleys in Springville, PA married to Arminta/Arminda Burdick at that time. The family is known for twins, but most of the early ones did not live. Does anyone have any knowledge of a Laurie or Leurie Burdick in Springville, PA? Thank you.

I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I am trying to verify the Confederate service of William G. Burdick. He is buried in Lee County, Georgia. His grave marker indicates his date of birth as 28 Dec. 1836 and death date of 23 Mar 1916. There are no other graves near his and there are no other Burdicks buried in Lee County.
The 1910 census for Lee County lists him as being a Confederate veteran, age 73, and born in Georgia.
I am trying to find the unit in which he served and any other service related information or to make contact with a descendant.

I am still trying to find the parents of some early Burdicks in Grafton, Rensselaer County, New York.
1.Who are the parents of Elisha T. Burdick, born 28 Nov 1812 in Grafton, Rensselaer Co., NY. He married Charlotte Phillips in Rensselaer Co. on 1 Feb 1834. At the time Elisha died on 10 March 1868, he was a doorkeeper at the New York Senate in Albany.
2. Who are the parents of Nathan T. Burdick who was born in 1811 in Grafton, Rensselaer Co., NY and died there in 1876. He first married Sarah A. (maiden name unknown). In a later US Census record, his wife is named Hannah Arrita (maiden name unknown). Possibly Sarah and Hannah are the same individual.
Any assistance determining the parentage of Elisha T. and Nathan T. will be most appreciated.

Lydia BURDICK, b 21 Jul 1804, Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, d 18 Feb 1883 North East, Erie, PA (Roll 777, Book 1, pg 117b). Married Joseph Ellis LEE, b 06 Jan 1800 North East, PA, d 29 May 1848, North East, PA. They are buried in the Grimshaw Cemetery in North East, PA. That cemetery is on the web. Many BURDICK'S are buried there. Lydia and Joseph had 9 children.
I'm searching for Joseph Ellis LEE's father, EBENEZER LEE. EBENEZER LEE, b 1774, Cazenovia, Chenango Co., NY, d 1812 (unk where). He married BETSY JANES, b 1780 (unk where), d 10 Nov 1834 (unk where). I'm searching anything about Ebenezer LEE. Parents particularly, and siblings. Also, same for Betsy JANES. Parents particularly, and siblings. All I've found on Ebenezer and Betsy is census records for 1800 (hash marks) showing more children than anyone has listed. Children of Ebenezer and Betsy Janes LEE:
1) Joseph Ellis Lee, b 06 Jan 1800, North East, PA, d 29 May 1848, North East, PA (married Lydia BURDICK)
2) Emily Lee, b 27 Jan 1802, North East, PA, d 27 Oct 1855, North East, PA (married Oliver JANES, b 28 Mar 1799, South Hero, Grand Isle, VT, d 21 Oct 1852, North East, PA, son of Humphrey Janes and Thankful Campbell Janes, 11 children for Oliver and Emily.
Perhaps it was just other people living with them, and not actually children.
