I have just started my family history. My father's name was Raymond Leroy Burdick my grand father was Harold Burdick -- all of CT and, I believe, RI. That is about everything I have. I never met my father so have little to work with except my birth certificate. A few years back I used to here from a man on the web called George Asterfield and his wife was a Burdick; he was going to help me out with finding my family but I was so busy at the time I lost tract of him. If he is still out there perhaps he will contact me.

I'm seraching for the father of my great-grandfather Reuben W. West. He was born in Grafton NY in 1817. According to documents he was born in 1817 and was present in the 1840 census in Grafton and then moved to Verona NY. He first son, Francis Reuben West, was also born in Grafton. I know that several Burdick members married Wests's and its possible that a Francis West, Jr. married a Burdick prior to moving to Saratoga County NY from Grafton. Any help locating the father of Reuben would be appreciated.

I am researching my great-great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Burdick, most likely born in or near Coeymans, Albany, New York in 1802. She married Caleb C. Sweet in 1820, and their three children, Susan Maria, Eugenia M., and Robert Joshua, all seem to have been born in Westerlo, Albany County, New York. The family Bible from which the information I have on Elizabeth Burdick is gleaned and which was kept by her daughter, Susan, surprisingly omits reference to her death, although her husband's is recorded (from 1875). I have to surmise that Elizabeth Burdick Sweet died sometime between 1827 and 1832, as several old photographs, census records, and burial records and gravestone inscriptions show that Caleb Sweet remarried and had two children with his second wife, Mary Peers Chapman, a widow. I have visited the cemetery where Caleb and his "second family" are all laid to rest in Guilderland, near Albany, New York, and I have seen the tombstones in Franklin, Delaware County, New York of Susan Sweet Hitchcock and her sister Eugenia Sweet Benedict Any information that might be out there on Elizabeth Burdick and/or any Burdicks living in Coeymans, Rensselaerville, or Westerlo circa 1800 would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in finding the following item. I had a relative by the name of Marcia Fish who lived in Cortland, NY. She and her husband ran a bowling alley on Route 281 in Cortland for a number of years. She was the secretary/historian for the York family reunions (on my father's Burdick side of the family) in that area. We used to have large family reunions when I was growing up, and then they slowly dewindled down to none. She kept a large ledger with all of the York Family Tree in it, traced back to the Duke of York. I would like to know if anyone out there has ever seen or knows the whereabouts of this book. I would like to get a copy of it to help complete my lineage search. Thank you in advance for any assistance in this matter.

I have been trying to trace a Burdick family who lived in Albany County, NY in 1850, 60, 70, & 80. William H. Burdick was born abt. 1817 in NY according to the census. His first wife was Laura from MA and his 2nd wife was Mary from England. He was a Boatman & Boat Captain on the Erie Canal, living in West Troy, NY. The names of his children and approx. years of birth are: Emily Ann (1841), Ann E. (1844), William H. (1847), Elias V. (1851), & Cordelia (1855). If you can place this William H. Burdick, born abt. 1817 in NY into one of your Burdick families, I would be very excited to know!! William moved to Cortland County after the 1880 census with sons, Elias & William H., and died here in 1897. No record has been found that gives insight as to his parentage, so any help or suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.

My grandmother Pearl Weeks Dwyer who passed away in 1992 at the age of 96yrs. was the daughter of Emma Burdick Weeks. Emma was the daughter of Abel and Susan Burdick of Hampton Conn.. Abel was a large landowner in Hampton, and was born in 1836 in Griswold Conn. and passed away in Hampton in 1926. My grandmother often told me about travelling from Hartford Conn. to Hampton with her parents and sister Ida to work on her grandfathers farm. Long life was passed on threw the Burdick family. Abel lived to be 90yr.,his daughter 87 yrs., my grandmother 96 yrs. and her sister Ida was 90yrs.also my great-grandfather Chester Newell Weeks lived 94 yrs. The people who came from the old families of eastern Conn. were called Connecticut swamp yankees of which my grandmother was very proud. Today my son Michael is in Hampton, so we can say we have not traveled very far from the beginnings with Robert Burdick in Newport R. I.. Also a note Abel was a U.S. Volunteer for 3yrs. in the Civil War.

I am interested in any information regarding Burdick families from around Smethport, PA. I am the son of Rex Owen Burdick and Patricia (Ramsey) Burdick. I have two brothers, Michael and Morgan. My grandfather was Leo Hyde Burdick of Smethport. I know that Leo had at least one sibling, Wade Burdick. I believe there were also relatives that lived in and around Buffalo, NY. Our families have lived in Alaska since 1960 when dad (Rex) came here to work on the DEW Line and in communications after serving in Korea. I would love to hear from anyone.

Hoping to locate others with knowledge of the families of Lyman G. Burdick (b. abt 1834-36 NY) and his wife, Hannah (or possible Harriett - unk. maiden name: b. abt 1836 NY). They were married about 1853 and had seven known children - all born in MA:

Alpheus (b.abt 1854)
John (b abt 1857)
Emily E. (b. June 1858 in Clarksburg, Berkshire County, MA)
Julie (b. abt 1860)
Celestia (b. abt 1865)
Albert (b. abt 1868)
and Elisa (b. abt 1876).

Emily E. is one of my maternal Great Great grandmothers - she married Lorenzo GARDNER in 1881 and had four children:

Lyman Burdick Gardner - 1882-1947 (my Great grandfather - Married Eva E. REYNOLDS)
Harriet L. - 1884 - ?
Unknown named child (probably died as a small infant)
Ethel Mary Gardner - 1892 - ?

Both the 1870 and 1880 Federal census for North Adams, Berkshire County, MA, indicated that both Lyman G. Burdick and Hannah's parents' were born in Vermont.

Researchers in Berkshire County, MA couldn't locate any record of marriage of Lorenzo and Emily also no additional information regarding the birth records in their city/town clerk's office for either of them even though conflicting records show that Lorenzo was born in Burdicksville, Berkshire County, MA.

At this point of my research I have hit a brick wall regarding any other type of information about the above mentioned Burdick/Gardner families. I'm hoping someone might have some information to share on any of these line or at least point me in the right direction to locate myself. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for any information about my GG Grandfather Henry L.F. Andrews, m. Betsy Marion Fitzpatrick. He was wounded at Cold Harbor and is buried in Ledgyard, CT. Cold Harbor is in Virginia, very close to Richmond. It was during the Civil War. We have Burdicks in many limbs of the family tree, ie Bill Burdick m. Evelyn Perry (my cousin); Agnes Burdick was the mother of my brother in law Ira Thorp and lived in Ashaway all of her life. However I have met up with a brick wall when trying to find out about information about Henry L. F. Andrews even though I know he is buried in Ledyard. Being in far away New Hampshire I don't have too much of an opportunity to get down that way. Any information would be appreciated.

My maiden name is Turner and I am originally from Ashaway RI. My Grandmother was Delila Louise Crandall. My grandmother's father was Frederick James Crandall who mother was Louisa Stannard Burdick, her father was Joseph Gideon Burdick, his father was Gideon Burdick, his father was Samuel Burdick III, his father was Samuel Burdick Jr, his father was Samuel Burdick Sr, his father was Robert Burdick and his father was Samuel Burdick.

I used to attend the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Ashaway where my father William Vernon Turner was the maintenance person. That would of been in the 1950's. My dad died in 1955 and is buried in the First Hopkinton Cemetery where there are many of the Burdicks also. Louisa Stannard Burdick is buried there with her husband James Horace Crandall. I was just up to that cemetery to visit my parents grave and found their graves.

I have a family tree on Ancestry and Roots Web. It is #2680410 and lists several of the Burdicks. It is entitled Turner Thorne Tuttle Packard Campbell and Crandall. You can put in Louisa Stannard Burdick b: 10 March 1824 in Charlestown, Washington RI d: 3 March 1901 Westerly Kings, RI and you should be able to get my family Tree.

I am a direct descendant of Elder John Crandall of RI, also William Cheesebrough of Stonington and many others. Right now I am working on my Campbell ancestors from Scotland and Maine. I am doing another family tree and have a lot more detail on it. As soon as I finish it I will be putting it on to one of the genealogy websites.

I am searching for information regarding WILLIAM BURDICK and his wife SARAH MUCHLER/MUELLER/MUEHLER in order to continue my family genealogy. SARAH was born about 1822 in New York; her parents were born in Pennsylvania. She married WILLIAM BURDICK about 1844. They lived in Oakfield, Genesee Co., NY (1850); then in Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY. They had 11 children: WALSTEIN BURDICK, b. 1844, EMMA BURDICK, b. 1846, AUGUSTA (or HELEN AUGUSTA) BURDICK, b. 1848 FREDERICK BURDICK, b. 1850 ANNE BURDICK, b. 1853 ALFRED BURDICK, b. 1854 MAGDALENA (ALENA) BURDICK, b. 1856 JAY BURDICK, b. 1859 MILES BURDICK, b. 1862 JOHN BURDICK, b. 1865 ANDREW BURDICK, b. 1867 (may have died before 1880)

And I cannot find any of the others. If anyone is related to any of these Burdicks and has information on SARAH MUCHLER BURDICK, I would appreciate some help or direction. Thanks!

I am a Todd family genealogist. I've traced my Todd family back to the 1700s in New York State. One of the Todd daughters married a Lobdell man. The Lobdell family continued a couple of generations down to Mary Lucinda Lobdell who married Willett Franklin Burdick, 28 Jun 1870 in Belmont, Allegany Co., NY. This is my connection to the Burdick line.

Willett Franklin Burdick, son of William A. and Avis Adeline Lamphier (Thurston) Burdick (see below for more on this couple), was born 18 Jul 1844 in Wirt Center, Allegany Co., NY and died 16 Jul 1919 (in I assume NY), age 74. He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. As I mentioned above, Willett married Mary Lucinda Lobdell 28 Jun 1870 in Belmont, Allegany Co., NY. They were parents of at least three children:

Gordon/Cordon/Corda Abraham Burdick, born 26 Mar 1871 in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY and died there 21 Oct 1943, age 72. He was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Friendship. Gordon/Cordon/Corda married (1) Nellie Victoria Evens, 18 Nov 1893 in Nile, Allegany Co., NY. They were parents of at least five children: Mildred, Charles/Clifford, Clyde, Raymond and Mary (all surname Burdick). Gordon/Cordon/Corda married (2) Jennie S. (maiden name unknown), circa 1922 in New York.

Elizabeth Fanny Burdick, born 06 Dec 1872 in Titusville, PA. Elizabeth married her cousin, Frank Eben Lobdell, 23 Jan 1890. They were parents of at least five children: Reba, Ivan, Unknown, Dorene and John (all surname Lobdell).

Winifred Pearl Burdick, b. 26 Mar 1888 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co., NY and died in 1935. Winifred married Louis J. McClay circa 1904. They were parents of at least three children: Edwina, Beatrice and Eloise (all surname McClay).

More on Willett Franklin Burdick's father: William A. Burdick, son of William and Martha (Babcock) Burdick, was born 01 Jul 1807 in Berlin, Rensselaer Co., NY and died 10 Mar 1887 in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY, age 79. William married Avis Adeline Lamphier Thurston, 20 Oct 1831 in Wirt, Allegany Co., NY. Avis Adeline Lamphier Thurston, daughter of John Landers and Nancy (Lamphier) Thurston, was born 10 Jan 1815 in Berlin, Rensselaer Co., NY and died 13 May 1892, probably in Friendship, NY, age 77.

If any of these names ring a bell for any of you, PLEASE write me and tell me how you are related to this family. I'd love to correspond with anyone who knows anything about this Burdick family or the Lobdell family or the Todd family.

I am a descendant of Hannah Burdick and her husband Nathan Sisson. They were married 9 Feb 1763 in Hopkinton (Washington County, I think), Rhode Island. Maybe you have Hannah in your records, but if not -- Hannah was born 17 Sept 1734 in Westerly, RI, dau of Robert and Dorcas (Lewis) Burdick. Robert was a son of Thomas and Martha (Randall) Burdick, and Thomas was a son of the original Robert and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick. At least that's what I have in my records. Maybe you have different - and doubtless better - records? I have Hannah and Nathan's descendants by the dozens if you're interested.

I am descended from Robert Burdick and his wife Ruth Hubbard through their great grandson, James Burdick. James married Phoebe Smith and they lived in Lanesboro, MA before moving to South Hero, Vermont where James ran a ferry service. There has been some confusion as to whether James was the grandson of Robert Burdick Jr. through his son, Joshua and wife, Abigail Lanphere -- or the grandson of Hubbard Burdick Sr. through his son, Hubbard Jr. and wife, Avis Lewis. I'm hoping that you can help me, or help me find someone who can help me, find information about my great-grandmother Kathleen Elizabeth (or Elizabeth Kathleen) Burdick. Everyone called her Kate. (We've seen her last name spelled Berdick as well.) Here's what I know of her story:

She was born in Texas, in or around Clarendon, perhaps at the Good Night Ranch, roughly around 1888. From there the family travelled to Montana, likely Great Falls, where she married my g-grandfather, William Mathew Jordan. Eventually, in the 1920s, they moved to Seattle. They had 5 girls, Marguerit, Grace, Lillian, Delma, and Joyce. She died in 1976. While I've been able to find census records for her after she was married, I've been unable to find any records that she was anywhere before 1920, which seems odd to me. Her father's name began with a J, perhaps John, James, or Joseph. My grandmother did not remember him well at all.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I am descended as such: Robert Burdick (1), Deborah Hubbard Burdick (Crandall) (2), John Crandall (3), Mary Crandall (Langworthy) (4), Rachel Langworthy (Larkin) (5), Timothy Larkin, Jr. (6 ), Joshua Larkin (7), Cyrus Amasa Larkin (8 ), Arthur Larkin (9), Ronald Lee Larkin (10), Annette Larkin - me! I saw that in the correction pages of the Burdick book, Akron, NY is mentioned. Timothy Larkin, Jr, Joshua Larkin, Joshua's wives and many of his children are buried in Ledgelawn Cemetary, Newstead, NY - which is the town next to Akron (in fact many times the area is referred to as Akron/Newstead).

I have Burdick ancestery and am doing research for a friend who also has Burdick ancestry. Alden (1803) and Jerusha Parks Burdick (1816) had a daughter named Laura Louisa (1838). I have been trying to find out when Jerusha and Laura entered Utah and, if possible, with which pioneer companies. (I'm related earlier back, when Deborah Burdick (1660) married Joseph Crandall.)

My line:

Westerly/Hopkinton, RI (c.1650): (1) Robert > (2) Deacon Benjamin > (3) John, Esq. > (4) Phineas > DeRuyter, NY (c.1800): (5) William > (6) Capt. Ira > (7) DeVello > Chicago, IL (c.1850): (8) Harry, Sr. > Sioux City, IA: (c.1920) (9) Harry, Jr. > Omaha, NE (c.1950): Richard, Esq.

My Father, Harry, Jr. (d. 1997), is listed on page 987 of The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island. [We are extremely fortunate to have a copy of this work ("The Burdick Bible") on deposit in the genealogical reference section of the Omaha Public Library].

I also have information/photos concerning Burdick Cemetery in DeRuyter, NY, which I had the pleasure of visiting in 1993, for the specific purpose of family research. DeRuyter, NY, is in Cortland County, NY, just south of the Syracuse area. I'd be interested making contact with anyone connected with the DeRuyter Burdicks (about third cousins or so?). Other family names connected to the DeRuyter Burdicks: Thompson, Hall, Coon...wives and in-laws who are also buried there..

I'm doing some family history research. My grandmother Edna Ward married to Frank D. Cossaboon, had a sister Mary (Ward) Burdick. Her nickname was Mary "Oh Nuts", because she used the term quite frequently! - ha! She and her husband, (i'm trying to find his first name) owned the liquor store in Bolivar, NY and lived there many years. I remember them as a child, and also seeing Mary later in her life. My mother's side of the family includes Sullivan, Hogan, Morans.

I keep seeing the name Burdick come up in my research of PA and NY. I'm also tracing my grandfather Frank back to earlier Cossaboon's or Karsebooms, and the Ward's, etc. back to Europe. I look forward to reading about my Burdick ancestors! I wonder if there are other spellings like Burdic?

My father was Eldon Edward Burdick, and I was born September 9, 1951. His parents, who died before I was born, were both named Burdick before they met and got married. So I must be related to a LOT of Burdicks. My Mother's maiden name was Clarke, another old name in the U.S. These two facts account for my name: Clark Eldon Burdick.

Burdicks Crossing Road is in New York State near the Village of Greig. Greig is where my father said his family was originally from (he grew up in Illion, NY). It looks like someone named Burdick owned property at a convenient location to cross a river or, and therefore the road became "Burdick's Crossing".

My Great Grandmother was Mary Burdick and was married to Aeron (Art) A. Hough. Mary's parents were Daniel C. Burdick and Caroline Ripley. They are all burried in Rockton Township Cemetery. Rockton is North of Rockford, IL and South of Beloit, WI. I cannot find Mary and Art's marriage date or where they were married. I have an idea that it was in Virginia.

I did a google search on my great great grandfather, Phineas Burdick, and came the Burdick web site. I almost fell out of my chair. This has been very exciting for me as I was adopted and recently found out my biological relationship to the Burdicks. I am at a loss on making the connection between Robert B.'s son Thomas, his son Capt. Samuel B., his son John and spouse Sybyl - since they are listed as the parents of a Phineas B. in one area but list only a son Abel in another. Abel settled in Allegheny, NY while my Phineas B. settled in St. Lawrence. I just can't seem to bridge the Phineas' in St. Lawrence together. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Stalking Mary BURDICK born 1763-1767, wife of Africa HILL born 1766 Dutchess Co NY to 1842 Tioga Co PA. Mary's age is 83 born NY on 1850 census but her 1862 headstone said she lived to 99 years old. I'm looking for Mary at Dutchess County because their first 4 children were born there at Pawling.

Africa's sister Ruth Hill married Peleg SLOCUM, a son of Abraham b 1730 & Abigail (SMITH) Slocum. Two sons of Robert b 1723/4 and Jane (BENNETT) Burdick of Stonington CT, Samuel & Daniel, married a pair of the Slocum daughters at Dutchess County NY.

Robert & Jane Burdick show no daughter Mary but there is a gap or 2 that could account for my Mary:

Robert BURDICK b: ABT 1745
Nathan BURDICK b: ABT 1747
Ephraim BURDICK b: ABT 1749
Samuel BURDICK b: ABT 1751
Daniel BURDICK b: 15 JUL 1759
Sarah BURDICK b: ABT 1761
Tabitha BURDICK b: ABT 1763
Amy BURDICK b: ABT 1769

Africa's father George Hill was born abt 1739 at Stonington CT, his grandfather John 1699 at Westerly, RI.

Has anyone any information or hints if my Mary could, or could not, belong with the Robert/Jane bunch?
