I am the daughter of Harriet Pearl Charles and John Berant Engberg. My mother Harriet is the daughter of Pearle Helen Burdick. She was the daughter of James W. Burdick and Jospehine (Josie) Wells (some descrepncie there it also could be Jennings per Jon Saunders). Anyway James is the youngest son of Ruel Verius Burdick and Mary Ann Ousterout.James and his family are out of Brookfield, Madison County, New York. James was born in 1870 or 1871. Josephine in 1880.They had four children, Leon C. born 30 July 1899, Blanche born abt 1902, Pearle Helen born 3 March 1903 and Frances Ann born 24 Nov 1906. Something happened to my grandmothers family around 1909-1910.All the children were split up. My grandmother in the 1910 census was living with a family in Brookfield by the name of Wing. She was later adopted by Harriet Ann Babcock and her husband Walter. He had already started his new life with Ida. Anything the Burdicks could do would be greatly appreciated. My mother is 78 years old and would like some mysteries solved in her life. I started searching 6 years ago....Jon Saunders was the greatest help to me by putting the family to together with Ruel. That began my search back to many ancestors. If you have any questions you can contact me at raccoon@att.net. Again thank you.

I am trying to trace my Burdick line. Samuel Burdick was born in CT,according to census reports,he was born in about 1831. He married Sarah Dawley about 1852,she was the daughter of Isaac and Hannah. In 1850 the Dawley family was living in Hopkinton, RI. Samuel died in 1861 in Pawcatuck/Westerly. Sarah 2nd married Ray Burdick, son of Mumford and Mercy. When Samuel died 1/2 a cemetery lot was purchased from Luther Burdick, son of Hazard and Martha, according to cemetery records at Riverbend cemetery in Westerly. Also buried in the next cemetery lot is Edmund Stillman whose 2nd wife was Eliza Burdick, daughter of Reuben and Mary, and 1st cousin to Luther. Who was Samuel Burdick? Samuel and Sarah's daughter (Frances)Almedia was born in Rockville, RI in 1853 and she was my great great grandmother.

I wonder if you can help me find out if there is any connection based on the following information. I recently found the following information: My Grandfather was William Kingman born in Lewis, NY 1873. My Great Grandfather was Nelson Kingman born in Lewis, NY about 1840 and fought in the Civil War for the 96th NY. I found a census listing that appears to show that his parents were William Kingman, born in Scotland about 1784 and Hannah Burdick, born about 1794. I found an obituary from a Stephen Kingman, who died in 1915 at 90 years and I believe he was Nelsons' brother, The obituary goes on to say that he was the son of William Kingman and Hannah Burdick who were married in Peru, NY. It also references that William fought for the British in the war of 1812. I would certainly appreciate any information you may have that would help me. Thank you.

I am working on a line of Burdicks that went from Connecticut to Plattsburgh, NY. I'm still looking for the link between Lester Jason Burdick and Robert. My great grandmother was Edna Burdick, daughter of Ira Lester Burdick who was a son of Stephen McIntyre, son of Lester Jason Burdick. In New York I found that Lester Jason bought land from Wait Burdick and that they lived near McIntyres (Stephen McIntyre is Lester Jason's son). Does anyone know if Wait might possibly have been Lester Jason's father? There was a family of Waits that lived on one of the islands in the Hudson (Wait Bay is named after them) and it is possible that a Burdick married a daughter of the Wait's , hence the first name Wait. At any rate, I could not find any other information in Plattsburgh because few records were kept at that time in the wilderness that was Plattsburgh. I welcome any information that might shed a light on my quest for a connection to Robert.

I am researching my husband's family. I know of Asa Sheldon Briggs who married Mary C. Burdick, born July 8, 1827; died 1909. They are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Ashaway, RI. I am having trouble finding Mary's parents names. I have seen reference to mother being Mary "Polly" Burdick, born Nov. 29, 1800, parents Thompson Burdick and Amey Sisson. This Mary(potential mother) was married to Sands Palmer. Interestingly, Mary and Sands are buried near Mary C. and Asa Sheldon. If Mary and Sands are Mary C. Burdick's parents, why would her last name not be Palmer?
If anyone can clear this up I would be grateful as this would connect a gap between 2 branches.

My great grandmother was Kathleen Elizabeth Burdick/Berdick Jordan (b. 1885-1887 [Clarendon, Texas], d. 1976 [Seattle, Washington]). Her father was John Burdick, born—according to her—in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She is my “brick wall” ancestor. Although I can find her listed as a married woman in Census records, and although my grandmother (Delma Kathleen) told stories about “Grandma (Amelia Pearl?; Pearl R?) Burdick,” I can’t find anything about any of the Burdicks in my family. Following is the information that I do know, based on what my grandmother & great grandmother told me about themselves.
John Burdick, from Stevens Point, Wisconsin m. Amelia Pearl(?) Pearl R. Ross, from Owentown, Kentucky. They had at least 5 daughters, including Kathleen Elizabeth Burdick, who moved from Texas to Montana between 1885 or 1887 when she was born and 1905 when she married William M. Jordan.
Kathleen (Kate) and William had 5 daughters, Marguerite P. (b. 1906), Lillian W. (b. 1907), Delma K. (b.1911), Grace E. (b. 1915), and Joyce (Billie) (b. 1927). All but Billie were born in Great Falls, Montana. It would be simple to return to these women and ask what they remember, excepting that only Billie is still alive, and she has Alzheimers. Delma is my grandmother.
As far as official records are concerned, my great grandmother is only recorded after she was married. But she was born at some point. Please e-mail if you know anything about her or the other members of the family. Thanks.

I am researching my wife's ancestors. Her name is Elizabeth Burdick Mendoza. Her father was Robert Lee Burdick, born May 25, 1922, in Ironwood, Michigan. Died November 18, 1975, in Redwood City, California. In addition to my wife, he had 5 other children, all girls.
Barbara Ann and Mary from his first wife, Barbara Jean, Patricia, Elizabeth and Tracie from his second wife. Robert lived in Duluth, MN as a young child, moved to Washington state as a teen, lived in North Dakota, Minnesota and California as an adult.
Robert Lee's parents were Robert Oscar Burdick and Winnifred (Winnie) "Crambelt" (Soundex also matches "Cramblet"). 1930 census lists the family in Spokane, Washington, lists Robert Oscar's age was 40, birthplace as Wisconsin, his father's birthplace as New York, and his mother's birthplace as Wisconsin. Winnie's age was 35, birthplace is listed as Wisconsin, father's in Ohio, and mother's in Pennsylvania. That's all we have. Anyone with any possible link please contact me. Thanks.

Seeking information on Perrin Burdick and wife __?_ Clark Burdick and descendants -
I am seeking information about my wife's ancestors. I have a manuscript written by William Howard Gilley in 1939 that says...
"My mother's father was a New Yorker but the family came from Williamstown...He was a successful business man of the old school. His firm, Burdick and Fresby was the fore runner of the American Molasses Co. and Perin Burdick was a highly respected citizen of his day, a churchman and a father of a large family. Of his sixteen children only six lived to grow up, of these, three boys all served in the Civil War. Sam, the second son, marching at the head of a Division of the 7th Regiment as far as Washington and coming back with the Regiment to quell the race riots in New York City; Albert, the younger, enlisting with Duryees Zouaves, the blue coated, red baggy trousered regiment that was recruited from all over New England and New York. Albert was pretty much of an imp and Maine was having one of those odd election dates and wanted her voters and it had been arranged that Maine men could be allowed to go home and vote. Albert was anxious about the riots, perhaps wanted to see his family [in New York City], perhaps liked the joke, anyway when the order was given, "Maine men step out!", Albert stepped out and went home. Later Perin Sr. was arguing President Lincoln out of shooting Albert as a deserter. If I was writing a biography of Albert I could chronicle many interesting episodes of this remarkably lovable fellow. Stories that my mother told me at her knee as she made her early life live again for us children. Perin, the older son, had married a farmer's daughter, much to the disquiet of his parents, who had, in the early 50's [1850's], taken their family in a covered wagon all the way to Davenport, Iowa, to break off entangling alliances. Out in that wild country, the senior Burdick tried gentlemen farming and, finally broke, came back to New York by the aid of A.A. Low, the father of the Seth Low of our day, and started all over again and rebuilt a fortune. This time he, too, went to Harlem...My mother's mother came from Rhode Island stock, brought up on a country estate, then and now called Glen Anna. For years the Clark family had owned this property and she had lived there. The property now [1939] belongs to Moses Taylor Pine but the grave stones tell a long story of the Clarks. The old house still stands, the dairy over the brook is still there. The water mill is gone, but the glen to the sea is still as it used to be....My mother is said to have been an attractive woman and she must have been brilliant for she qualified as one of the first year students at Vassar College. Of my mother's eldest sister, little is known. She never married as was 25 years older than my mother...I remember she taught the Indians in Iowa to read and write..."
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has more information on this branch of the Burdick family. Thank You.

I have run into a brick wall information wise on my grandmother who passed before I was even born. Her name was Mary Agnes Burdick, she had two sisters Lydia and Laura. Mary Agnes was born 08-14-1879. I think her mother was Elizabeth Burdick (I dont know what Elizabeths maiden name was) and do not have any idea what my grandmothers fathers name was, only know that he was born in New York, and her mother born in Maine. It was told to me when I was a child that my great grand parents were mormons. I think my grandmothers sister Laura married Edward Blaylock and Lydia married Harry Stockwell. Laura had children, Lydia didnt. My grandmother Mary Agnes Burdick married Alanson Dewitt Richardson, they had five children. Harold Burdick Richardson, Mildred Lydia Richardson, Donald Dewitt Richardson, my dad Jack Flarence Richardson and his sister Elizabeth Janet Richardson. If you could shed any light on my Burdick lineage it would be awesome.if not thats fine too, either way thank you for your time.

I was born in Kansas City, MO June 26, 1952. My parents are Wayne Elwin and Mildred Elizabeth (Day) Burdick. We moved to Ann Arbor, MI shortly after I ws born. I have quite a bit of information which my father and uncle put together about the Burdick line.
My father, Wayne (d. 9/1/1982, Ann Arbor, MI) was born in Hart, MI on June 19, 1913 to Mary Myrtle Gunderson (b. 2/15/74 in Whitehall, MI, d.1991 in Hart, MI) and Stephen William Burdick. He had one brother, Orel Zeno Burdick born July 27, 1903 in Hart, MI (d.1984, Muskegon, MI). Steven William Burdick (b. 11/10/1867, d. 4/30/1940 in Hart, MI) was the son of Laura Jane Hall (b. 5/6/1827, d. 12/28/1913) and Stephen William Burdick (b. 3/29/1826, d. 4/14/1920) and was born in Girard, Erie Co., PA. He had two brothers I know of, Abner Hall Burdick (b.9/2/1851, d. 11/5/1926) and Darius J. Burdick (b. 10/21/1858, d. 4/13/1895). His father (the second Stephen William Burdick mentioned above) was born in Herkimer County, PA and was the son of Elinor Ward and Darius Burdick (b. 1798, d. 1861 or 62.). Darius was born in Renssalaer County, He was in the War of 1812, and in the battle of Lindy's (sp?) Lane, probably under General Scott in Erie County, PA. Elinor's parents were John Ward (a Holland Dutch miller) and -----Wilbur (first name missing) from England..
The is transcribed from Stephen W. Burdick, b. 1826):
"Two Polish Jews settled in Rhode Island and we sprang from one of these brothers. Our great, great, great grandfather lived on seashore of Rhode Island. Built sort of a castle. One son went to sea. My great, great grandfather, a sea-faring man, died of yellow fever at New York. He owned one vessel and built another at Hudson, for which he was in debt and left his widow, who lived to over 90, poor. My great uncle Enos went to sea at 16, was a wild boy. Before War of 1812 British were partially along Rhode Island. Ship on which he was gunner was impressed. He escaped and became boatswain under Commodore Decatur and went through the war. Followed sea until too old. Went to Sailor's Snug Harbor."
I have one brother, Rickey Wayne Burdick (b. 12/2/1956 in Ann Arbor, MI). I have two children, Ian Wayne Burdick (b. 11/26/1989 in Ann Arbor, MI) and Andrea Clare Burdick (b. 1/24/1993 in Pontiac, MI). We currently live in Pentwater, MI, about 7 miles from my father's boyhood home and the Hart Cemetary where several of my family are buried.

I am trying to find out who the parents are of Dudley BURDICK born between 1775 - 1784 possibly in Connecticut. He died between 1827 - 1830 in Voluntown, Windham Co., Connecticut. He married, possibly for the second time to a Sarah/Sally LEWIS on November 13, 1825 in Voluntown. They had two children Susan Lucretia BURDICK and Lucy Melinda BURDICK. I have found a Dudley BURDICK in Voluntown, Windham Co. Connecticut in the 1810 census and in 1820 in Sterling, Windham Co. Connecticut. I have found very little else on Dudley BURDICK and any help as to how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Dudley and Sarah BURDICK are my husband's 3x's Great Grandparents and their daughter Lucy Melinda BURDICK is his 2x's Great Grandmother.

I am trying to find information about the Burdicks in my past. Here is what I know: My great-great grandmother was Francis "Fannie" Lake Burdick, born March 24, 1874, died Feb. 14, 1940. Her parents were Charles Edward Burdick and Sarah Burton Buss (b. April 10, 1845). Francis married William T. Hallenbeck in 1895, and among their 5 children was my great-grandmother, Helen May Hallenbeck. Francis and William lived in Athens, NY, where I grew up. I was raised on the same farm that they bought in 1897. I am told that Charles Edward Burdick was a paid fireman in NYC, and that he and Sarah divorced around 1880. I don't know any other information about Charles Edward Burdick or his background/ancestry, so I am hoping that someone here might know something!

I beginning a Burdick family research project. So far I found my gr-great grandfather in an 1870 census, Copake, NY. Isaac Burdick born 1839 wife Catherine M born 1844, children Russell, Homer and a daughter-no name. So I know my great grandfather was Homer Burdick born 1867 in Copake, NY. He married (first wife-no name), children William, Everett, Eldrige 2 daughters no names. He married a second time to Alice Elizabeth VanTassel, children William (another one the first must have died), Russell, Pearl and Anna May. Homer lived in Lagrange, NY, Billings, NY, Newburgh, NY and finally settled in Ancram, NY. I haven't looked at any more census but will this summer. I was just wondering if you had a Homer Burdick listed. There are a lot of Burdicks in the Copake cemetery.

Thanks to the 1900 census I have found my Burdick connection: This census lists the following family in Cedar Twp, Antelope Co, NE:
Thomas (head) farmer b. July 1828 NY
Mary (wife) b. Oct 1849
Lizzie L. b. Dec 1879
Minnie M. b Jul 1883
Cora L. b. Feb 1878
Simon A. b. Dec 1884
Ernest b. Jun 1889
This corresponds with the 1880 census which places Thomas Burdick and wife
(M) in West Cedar Valley, Antelope Co, NE with 4 daughters M., (1870), L.
(1875), Cora (1878) & Lizza (1880). This is Thomas Amos Burdick b. July 5,
1828 in NY; died Jan 7, 1901 Elgin, Antelope Co, NE; Ernest's mother is
believed to be Mary Ann ?????? born Oct 28, 1849 ME; died November 18, 1918
Dos Palos, CA.
Any additional information on this family would be especially appreciated.
It does seem that most of the family later moved on to California. I believe
that Ernest died in 1966 in Gridley, CA.

I am researching my grandfather James Samuel Burdick. He was born in
Missouri in 1890 or 1891 but he also told me 1898. He married Leona Morgan in
Kansas and had a son Howard Mason Burdick in 1923 in Anderson Co... Kansas.
I understand he had a previous wife (James) who died during childbirth
prior to this marriage with Leona. He served in WWI, and was injured at the
battle of the Muse Argon. He died as a suicide May 1978 in Pico Rivera, Ca.
Any information or directions in search will be appreciated.

On my mother's side I am descended from a Daniel Burdick, born in what was
then Vermont in 1778. He married a woman named Charlotte Stewart ( Stuart).
One of his sons, Steven Vinson Burdick was my great, great grandfather and
Lillie Belle Burdick, one of Steven's daughters was my great grandmother.
I've heard that the Burdicks in the United States share a common lineage,
but to the best of my knowledge, I can find no connection with Robert
Burdick of Rhode Island. I have no idea what Daniel's father's name was nor
do I know if he was an immigrant or born in what would have then been the
Colonies. I do know that the Daniel Burdick's family was said to have
originated in Wales and that there is somehow a Mayflower connection.
I'm not sure if you have any suggestions or directions for finding out
whether we are part of your Burdick family. My biggest frustration to date
has been trying to discover who Daniel Burdick's parents were.

I am a Burdick who lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. My home town was named for a railroad man named Edmond Burdick. This same man supposedly has another town named after him which is Burdick, Kansas. I would like to find out if there is a connection between Edmond Burdick and my family line. My birthplace is here in Edmond, and I love this place very much. The City of Edmond, Okla. and the Edmond Historical Society are very interested in this man, and would like to know more about him. My question is, how would we go about finding information about him. And, most importantly, about my Burdick ancestry? I don't know much about my ancestry, except that my father's name was Ernest Emery Burdick, born in 1904, in Highland, Osceola County, Michigan. His father was Emery Eugene Burdick, born 1875, in Allegan County, Michigan, and his parents were Hiram Burdick (born in Pennsylvania) and Henrietta (Sprague) Burdick, born in New York State, and his parents were Peter and Sally Burdick. I know you are very busy, but If you could just tell me how to get started, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.

I was born on June 18th 1984, my birthplace is unknown to me (although I do know that it was either in Maryland, DC, or Virginia). I have seen this page pop up on Google many times, I didn't think there was any relation until I saw the coat of arms. This coat of arms was identical to my uncle's website, www.burdicks.net , so I began investigating further. I am the son of David Douglas Burdick, who is the son of Edward Ace Burdick. My mother's name is Zeny Silva Burdick and I have a sister, Betania Jessica Burdick. My mother is from the badlands of Brazil, speaks several languages but cannot read or write any of them. The only other language I speak fluently is HTML. My family is currently stationed in Georgia and I live in Richmond, Virginia. I have moved more times in my life than anyone else I know. I have lived in South Carolina, Groton Connecticut, California (twice), and all over Virginia. On average, we moved once a year-our record was 3 times while I was in 5th grade. I am currently a Junior at Virginia Commonwealth University, majoring in Mass Communications with a focus on creative advertising. I play guitar, bass, and drum machines. Another little factoid about me is that if you search for Joseph Burdick on Google I will be 5 out of the 10
queries on the first page.
I maintain the following websites:
1. Tenfold (10x.e3rd.com). I make experimental electronica music with my cousin, Aaron Burdick.
2. Devlogik (www.devlogik.com). Discreet design network made up of students.
3. JDB (jdb.devlogik.com). Online portfolio.
4. The Electronic Third (www.e3rd.com). Online community blog, running since 1999.
I work for the National Crime Prevention Council in Washington DC for 3 departments: Licensing, Media, and Public Relations (we're responsible for McGruff the Crime Dog ["Take a Bite Out of Crime"]). I have a question on the Burdick line that maybe you can help me with. My husband descends from Robert through his son samuel and then his son Thomas who was born in 1700. I have listed that he died 24 July, 1724 in Rhode Island. Then I have his son, Thomas as born 25 Oct, 1725. This can't be right as Thomas Sr. would have been deceased 15 months before Thomas was born. Do you have any of these dates?
