I'm trying to find information about my great grandfather, Ernest Burdick, born circa 1889 in Nebraska. The 1910 census finds Ernest with his wife, Eva, in Howell's Village, Colfax Co, NE. Eva (or Ava) Olds is the daughter of Frank Eugene Olds and Laura Tuttle, who lived in Oakdale, Antelope Co, NE. Ernest and Eva split up and their two daughters were adopted into different homes in Nebraska. My grandmother said that she met Ernest at some time, he was living in KS and owned a trucking company. He had remarried and had at least one daughter named Ernestine. This is all that I have been able to find out about Ernest Burdick, and unfortunately, most of the information is my mother's recollection of my grandmother's stories. Any help connecting Ernest to the rest of the Burdicks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I need some direction on finding a Nathaniel Burdick listed in the 1850 NY census with a daughter Catherine. He also has a son Wesley. I am stuck to find Nathaniel or his wife. The son later is in Copake NY. I have written to Claverack but records were not kept at that time. Anyone who could instruct me about what to find or where to resarch (Albany?) I don't want to travel there if records are not there or would take more than two days to find. any suggestions would be appreciated. Catherine leaves NY and marries George CAMP and arrives in South Hadley MA by 1880. Thanks.

I have a mystery on my hands. My ggg-grandmother was Francis Crandall, born 25 Oct 1833. She had a sister Huldah. She was married to Elias Westgate. They lived in Clifford, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. I know that there was a Burdick Family in Susquehanna County at this time, and there may have been a connection to it. And that's where the trail ends.

Crandall was not a common name in Northeastern Pennsylvania at this time, so we believe she may have come from upstate New York (their home was only minutes from the New York state border). Further research has shown a Henry Crandall living near Francis during this time period, born 1825, so we believe he may have been her brother. His birthplace is listed as New York. An older woman is listed as living in the home with him, a Huldah Salsbury, who is listed as being from Connecticut. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

My name is Anne Marie Jones Galvan. I was born May 22, 1973 in Fort Worth, Texas. I am searching for my birthmom, Susan Elklen Burdick. She was born in 1948 in Ohio. She joined the U.S. Army in 1971 and was stationed in Germany until 1973. She married a possible David Lee Brown in Las Vegas in September 1973. She was sationed in California and then Germany and was discharged in 1977. My birth granparents were married in 1947 or 1948. Birthgrandfather was born in 1922 or 1923. Birthgrandmother was born in 1926 or 1927. Both had two years of college. He was a civil servant and had flareups from malaria. They were involved with a host family program for a university. My birthmom also had an allergy to sulfa and had problems with allergies and ! chronic bronchitis, all of which I have inherited. My husband and I are planning on starting a family sometime in the next year and I am trying to connect with my birthfamily. I have read a little bit on the history of the Burdick family and find it encouraging that everyone is in someway related. I hope one of my relatives can help. I am listed on many search sites, registries and newsgroups. Everyone has been wonderful in helping. I have a list of a lot of Susan Burdicks and Susan Browns. Short of coldcalling each one on the list, I don't know how to narrow it down to the right person. Thank you.

I am looking for others looking up my same Burdick Branch. Specifically any descendents REUBEN/RUBIN BURDICK born in 1815 in New York who moved to Princeton, Kentucky and married MATHA ELIZABETH LEIGH in Princeton in 1835. Rueben died in 1850 and was buried in Eddyville,Ky. He left Martha Elizabeth with several small children to raise on her own. I found a letter in my great grandmother's attic years ago where Rueben's parents had written to her asking her to send two of the children to them to raise in Bristol, Connetecut. I don't know if she did that or not. She did move herself and some of her children to Memphis, Tennessee where she finished raising them. One of the children was Mary Burdick who was born in 1849. She grew up and married John Frank Thomas who had the "Broom Corn Factory" on Front Street in Memphis. These were my g-g-grandparents. Some of the other Burdicks that I believe were her siblings that lived and eventually died in Memphis were CHARLEY E.BURDICK, JAMES LEE BURDICK, AUSTIN WILLIAM BURDICK, WILLIAM A. BURDICK , MRS. DICIE SULLIVAN BURDICK, MRS.MARGARET ELLEN BURDICK (who was the son of Martin born in 1795, who was the son of Robert who was the son of Daniel died in 1805 who was the son of Robert born 1740 who was the son of Thomas born 1680 who was the son of Robert born in 1630) Does this happen to fit anyone else's Burdick Family out there? Thanks!

I am seeking information about Ambrose Burdick. The only information I have is from the 1880 census that says Eola, age 11, was living with her grandparents, Ambrose and Charlotte in Maple Valley, Buena Vista, Iowa. Charlotte, 58, (estimated birth year 1822) was borne in New York, Ambrose, 72, (estimated birth year 1808) was born in Massachusetts. He was a farmer. His father was born in CT and Mother New York. Of course this information is only as good as the person who writes it down. Eola was 11 born 1869 in Illinois. Her father was born in New York and her mother NH. That is all the information I was able to get from the census.

I have a photo, actually I believe it is a daguerreotype. I think it may be my great, great, great, grandfather Marcus Tullus Cicero Burdick born in 1812 and died in 1848. My question is, does anyone have a picture of Marcus or one of his brothers that I could use for comparison? His father was Elkanah Burdick 1771-1831, and his older brothers were David born in 1794, Jonathan b:1796, Amos Stanton b: 1797, Mason b:1806, Joseph b.1809.

I also have a picture of a George Burdick and his wife taken in Hartford Conn. Plus, one each of his parents taken in Plattsburgh, NY. I don't know for sure which George Burdick this is. Could this be George Harrison Burdick son of Albert Skinner Burdick, son of David, son of Elkanah, who married Eliza Watrous Schultz in Hartford Conn? If anyone has a picture of the George Burdick who married Eliza or a picture of Albert Skinner Burdick, or a picture of another George Burdick who would have been in that area, I would love to compare it to mine!

I am trying to identify the ancestry of Esther (Burdick) Irish, wife of John T. Irish. Esther was born 9 Apr 1809 in Lincklaen, Chenango, NY. She married John Irish on 13 May 1833; their children include Sally and Welcome. I believe Esther may be the daughter of George and Vashti (Coon) Burdick. A history of Lincklaen says:

George BURDICK came from Rhode Island in 1804, and made the first settlement at what is still known as Burdick Settlement in Lincklaen.... He married in Rhode Island, Vashti COON, who was born August 26, 1781, and died Oct. 31, 1871, aged 90. George died on the homestead Feb. 11, 1850, aged 71. They had numerous children.

I cannot locate either Esther or this George in the Descendants of Robert Burdick. I would appreciate any help in determining if indeed George is Esther's father - and then I would like to get the two of them linked into the line of descent from Robert.

I hope to be able to accomplish this before Christmas 2004 - I'd like to give my daughter and her new husband a chart showing the various ways in which they are related (10th cousins is the closest link so far). Tieing Esther into the line from Robert would give us another relationship to add to the mix.

I am trying to trace my family from someplace in upstate New York state to Milton, Wisconsin and Rockford, Illinois. My great grandfather was named Abel C. Burdick and was apparently married twice to women named Sarah. My grandfather was Fred Champlain Burdick and my father who died about a year ago was named Wilfred Champlain Burdick and was born in Rockford, Illinois. Both of their middle names are based on the family emigration sometime in the 1800's from upper New York state (I suppose the middle initial of my great grandfather stands for Champlain also). My father was one of seven children with two of his sisters and the youngest brother still surviving.

There were apparently two sets of Burdicks who settled in Milton, Wisconsin with the other family having two sons who established a medical testing company which survives today as Burdick, a Quinton Company. A few years ago the company was acquired by Siemens and was known as Siemens Burdick and then divested by Siemens. I also had a great uncle, Ward P. Burdick, who was a physician.

The other side of my father's family is Swedish with my grandmother's (nee Swanson) parents having emigrated from Stockholm, Sweden.

I hope this information will lead to some connections from upper New York state.

I am trying to find information on my Burdick side of the family and hope someone who visits your site can help me. Following is a list of some of my Burdicks.

Ezra Burdick, GGG-Grandfather married Mary Gill about 1825, possibly in New York. Their children were- Fanny Melissa, Harry Lester, Shadrach Adoniram, Harrison A., Marcellia L. and Viola L. Burdick. I know the family ended up in Wisconsin after Ezra's death and were shown in the 1860 census for Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin.

Viola L. Burdick married Lucian D. Wyatt if Ohio in 1875, Monroe County, Wisconsin. They both passed away in the early 1920's and are buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, Monroe County, Wisconsin. Their children were Ernest E., Vera May and Ethel Viola.

Shadrach Adoniram Burdick, GG-Grandfather married Mary Hart in 1861, Hustiford, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Their children were- Adelbert Harrison, Roswell Ulysses, Altha(?) M., and LaVonnie L. Burdick.

LaVonnie L. Burdick was my G-Grandmother and married my G-Grandfather, William C. Stotera in 1891, Monroe County, Wisconsin. At the time Shadrach ran a grocery store in the 3rd Ward of Tomah and William worked for his Father-in-law. In about 1910, William, LaVonnie and their children, Floyd Chester, Mae E. and Russell Lawrence moved to Conrad, Pondera County, Montana. They had a 4th child, Edgar George who died May 29, 1894 in Tomah, Monroe County, Wisconsin.

I looking for my great-grand mother Burdick's maiden name. I know her first name was Marion A. . She was born in January 1854 in Vermont. She married my great-grandfather James G. Burdick ( Zerah 1801-1861 & Clarissa M. Green 1811- aft. 1900) about 1874.. and was listed in the 1880 census for Dickinson, Franklin, New York with James and two daughters: Cora M. 1875- ??? , Voila I. 1879-1937 ( Viola is my grandmother). They ended up in the Town of Pierrepont, Saint Lawrence, New York. James was born in Underhill Vermont, and I believe he also lived in Westford. He had two brothers: Willaby & Avery and a sister Fanny. His mother, brothers,& sister all ended up in the same area of Saint Lawrence County. The census records state that Marion's parents were both Vermont born. The clerk for Underhill, Vermont checked records from the town, and found nothing. I know he didn't find her under a cabbage leaf, but it's beginning to seem that way. I would be most grateful for any little bits or leads at this point. But we would certainly appreciate your input as to how we best go about building on the small amount of information we have on the Burdick's that my wife descends from.

The following shows how my wife is linked to the Burdick's:
Miles Allen Burdick was married to Jane Elizabeth Strong
Helen Elizabeth Burdick (child of Miles and Jane) married George Washington Speake
Marcus George Speake (son of George and Helen) married Caroline Matilda Molson
Harry Lee Speake (son of Marcus and Caroline) married Juanita McClellan
Linda Lea Speake (my wife, and the daughter of Harry and Juanita) married Paul Allen Mollway (me)

I am looking for information on a Charles William Burdick who was married to an Ida. I believe they lived in Illinois. Charles had three sons that I am aware of. Earl, Eddie, and Frank (my great grandfather). The left Illinois and headed to Iowa. Charles either worked as a police man or on the railroad. Conflicting stories. I have been told Eddie and Frank moved to Kansas after parents passed on. Eddie I believe was killed in a railroad accident. Frank's guardian there in Burlington, Kansas was his uncle J.J. Meyers. Frank's grandmother lived in Burlington as well and her name was Catherine Link. I am thinking her maiden name was Catherine Burkhardt. Her father Wolfgang Burkhardt. I have been told too, that the name Merz could have been a married name of Catherine's as well. I thought maybe somebody thought Merz and Meyers were two different names when actually they are one in the same.

Frank married my great grandmother Myrtle Esther Garrett in Burlington. She was pregnant with my grandfather, Gerald Francis Ray Burdick, when Frank went to W.W.I. He was killed in France at a social gathering before he was to be shipped home. He was stabbed in the lung with a dagger. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery. My grandfather was born in September of 1916 I believe.

Francis my grandfather married Wilma Marie Paxson and had six children all of who are still living. Gary Francis, Dixie Raye, Connie Gaye (my mom), Diana Kaye, Dana Wayne, and Gregory Lynn.

That is where I come to a dead end. Please help.

I am stuck with my Burdick family research. I am hoping someone can help me. According to the book "Descendants of Robert Burdick" pg 1295, Section: Unclassified Burdicks...I am descended from: Ichabod Horace Burdick b. 30APR1786 near Madison, NY d. 7DEC1847 married Clarinda Barnes b 15DEC1788 d.19MAY1837.

I have since discovered who their children were (other than my ancestor): 1. Ambrose Spencer b.9DEC1807 m. Margaret Cheney (this is my ancestor). 2. James M(ichael?) b.4SEP1808 m. Eunice Laughlin. 3. Elizabeth b. 7SEP1810. 4. Sarah b. 9MAY1814. 5. Matthew M. b.29MAR1816. 6. Rufus P. b.25JUL1818. 7. John B. b. 30JUN1820. 8. Hannah b. 6JUL1822

I found Ichabod H. in 1830 Census @ Parma, Monroe, NY living next door to Ambrose S. and Hannah (shows 2 women 1 age 60-70 and 1 age 70-80). If anyone could/would help me I would greatly appreciate it!

I am searching for the parents of my ggg grandmother Florence Anly Burdick. I believe we have identified the parents of Benjamin, George, and Ezekial Luther Burdick, who were in Macon, Georgia in the 1860 Census, and joined the Georgia home guards. Three brothers appear in the 1850 Census as follows (btw, the ages here correspond to ages in the 1860 Census of Bibb County, Georgia):

Can anyone help me find the parents of three men, presumed brothers, who where in Williamsburg District, South Carolina in 1816-1820? From the South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research, Volume 2, p. 156, the will of George McConnell Senr of Williamsburgh district, he leaves everything to his granddaughter Jane M. Hewit, "but if my grand Daughter should contrary to inclination either Marry Elam Cheeseboro Burdick, or Eliphalet Hubbard Burdick, or Frederick Allin Burdick, in that case my granddaughter shall not inherit any of my property..." signed 6 Aug 1816

From SCMAR, Vol. 1, p. 60:
Will of Eliphalet H. Burdick of Williamsburgh District. To my brother Elam Burdick five dollars. To Eliza M. Hewit my bed and furniture...To my Aunt Mary Hewit my bay mare. To Sarah Hewit, a Heffer. To John G. Hewit my coatt. (To) Frances Marion Hewit, sow and pigs. To Thomas N. Hewit, sow and pigs. To Anna Hewit, sows and shoats. To my Aunt Mary Hewit, shoats. To Eliza M. Hewit, my two trunks. To my Aunt Mary Hewit my kitchen furniture. To John G. Hewit my apparel. My wages for overseeing for my Aunt M. Hewit to be equally divided among Mary's children. Uncle William J. Burrows executor and Aunt Mary Hewit executrix. signed 21 Sept. 1820.

If one of these men is my ancestor, I have reason to believe he was born in Connecticut. Much thanks for any help.

My Great, Great, Great Grandparents are Harriett Elizabeth Burdick & Jared Maxson. They are buried at the Wells Cemetery in NY. I descend through their son Norman Leslie Maxson (who dropped the "s" (Norman Leslie Maxon). I believe he did so on his arrival in Rock County, WI. The family story goes he said there were too many "Maxsons" around. Norman & wife Emma Eliza Richards were married in WI, then came to Hamilton County, Iowa. This is where my line remained. Through his son Henry Arthur Maxon & Caddie Lyon; Robert Maxon & Bessie Segar; then my parents Lawrence Maxon & wife Elma; then myself Pat Maxon Larson & husband Bob.

Of course as most of our family, there are so many varied lines back to Robert Burdick, Richard Maxson, George Stillman, Samuel Hubbard & you know how it goes on & on. I am in DAR, but am now proving my Family Line for Daughters of Colonial War, Court of Honor & other Colonial Era Lineage groups. Just a week ago I was a guest at one of these meetings & sat across the table from a woman who's maiden name was Burdick. She will be assisting me with proving our linked family line.

According to the Kingman County, Kansas, marriage records, Priscilla French married Charles Burdick Sept. 5, 1886, at the home of I. M. French. I want to verify who Priscilla's parents and siblings were. I believe she might be part of one of my family lines. My husband's (and therefore my son's) lines go back to Babcock, Burdick, Davis in Rhode Island and the Oconto County region of New York. I am encouraged to learn that New York census records for the "between" years; 1855, 1865, 1875; may be available at my local Family History Library and I will certainly be checking them the next time I visit there. I found my grandfather's obiturary from the "Gilman Star" (Gilman, Ilinois) dated 5 January 1939. A full page, giving me more information than I have ever seen in one obituary. I believe he must have been a pillar of the community - normal for a Burdick? It talked about his having been on the city council, activities in the church (Seventh Day Adventist) and position in the Masonic Lodge. He was an agent/operator for the TP&W Railroad. What I could piece together: starting with me -

Robert Rex Burdick pb Peoria ILL; b 1 Sep 1949; pm Pekin ILL; m 5 Sep 1970 (Jody L. (King) Burdick. Son: Shawn A. Burdick of Corpus Christi TX; Dau: Christina J. Burdick of Pekin ILL; Kathryn M. (Burdick) Burbach of Kenosha WI.

Father: Russell "Pete" Burdick pb LaHogue ILL; b 16 Jan 1917; pm Chicago ILL; m 8 Aug 1945 (Ellen Patricia (Greenan) Burdick); d 19 Jun 1978 (Bay Pines Vet. Hosp. Fla) Dau: Margret Jane Burdick (Michaelson) b Gilman ILL 17 Jul 1947 d Chicago ILL 17 Feb 1995; Son: Robert Rex Burdick.

Grandfather: Roderick Rex Burdick pb Hoopeston ILL; b 3 Apr 1882; pm Berrien Springs MI 21 Sep 1910 (Bessie Jane (Taylor) Burdick); d 4 Jan 1939; pd Gilman Ill; g Gilman Cemetrary. Sons: Wayne Burdick - deceased; Russell Burdick (deceased); Robert Aron Burdick of Lincolon NE; Dau: Betty (deceased); Esther (deceased).

Great Grandfather: William Richard Burdick b 15 May 1852; d Jun 1911; pd Watseka ILL; g Lyman Cemetary, Pittwood ILL.

G-G- Grandfather: Silas Burdick.

Thought, at one time, that I was the last of the line. But, obviously, not the case - just another branch to the Tree of Burdick. I did not have in mind to trace my origins or roots - but the more I read and think about the ancestory the more curious I get. Is this how it all gets started?

Mary Burdick (born about 1767) married Africa Hill (born about 1766, Dutchess Co, NY) about 1786 at Pawling, Dutchess County, New York. A Robert Burdick is enumerated next to Africa's father George on early censuses. Robert could probably be Mary's brother if not parent. Whoever Mary's parents were, they were probably born about 1730-1750. I can't say, either, where Mary was born - NY, CT, or RI.

My Hill line arrived in MA about 1631. 3rd generation colonial John was born at Westerly, RI 1699 to a family - another John - from Dorchester, Suffolk Co, MA. John grew up in Westerly and married, then headed west into CT for a short time (enough for several more babies) before arriving at Beekman Patent, Dutchess County.

His parents were Benjamin Thaddis Peleg Burdick and his mother was Amanda Hodgs (Hodges, Hodgan). Benjamin was from England and they had these children: Edgar, Marshall, Benjamin, Rochanne, Lucretia Pedro Pine, Charlotte Kenela Finch (Small, Harrison, Bacon), Ann Jennette Smit, and Phebe. I would be interested to find birthdates and spouses for them. Essey married Jim Lemburg (Lendburg), Leona married George wallace, and Stella (Estelle) married William Harry Lewis. My husband's grandfather was Charles M. Burdick, born March 13, 1873 in Townville Pa, son of Eveline Mattison & George Bennett Burdick (page 817, #3387 of Nellie Johnson's book). It wasn't until we got The Book that we found grandpa Charles had half siblings in Michigan and we have had no success in our search for any of that part of the family. Apparently George's son Elmer Leroy B. used the name Murphy.

Grandpa Charley, as we knew him, lived in Everett, WA around 1904 or 06 and had a run-in with the law so changed his name to Vincent, moved to Mexico where he married a Mexican lady & had 8 children, listed in the book. However, with the info he gave Nellie, (page 1131-1132 #3387) he doesn't mention the interesting name change or the reason why he fled to Mexico! If the book is ever updated, we could add to that...

On another line, we also can't seem to find any info regarding Evaline Mattison's family, except she was the daughter of Sophia Johnson Mattson, who was the daughter of Stephen & Melvina (Chapman) Johnson and that Melvina was purported to be half Chippewa. Any suggestions on how to find info on this? Sorry this is so long (and probably confusing) I'm fairly new to this researching. Thanks, Mar.

I have found information about Jonathan Burdick who married Roxey Forman. I still have not found the connection between several of the Forman family members I've been working on, and I seem to find more Burdick connections. Jonathan Burdick married Roxey Forman - Jonathan's parents were Elisha Burdick and Hannah Greene Burdick. I also found out that Elisha Burdick and Hannah Greene Burdick had a daughter Abigail who married Silas HIll. Their daughter, Louisa Hill, married another Forman from the line I'm researching - and that Forman may be the brother of Roxey.

The Burdick name keeps popping up - I guess they may have been close family friends who lived near each other and had a lot of shared information. Anyway, I wonder if you could help me locate the descendents of Elisha Burdick & Hannah Greene Burdick. Those names may give me a clue to more of my family. Most of my Forman's lived in Delaware County, but Elisha Burdick was born in Dutchess County, and so was at least one other Forman (Henry).

If you come up with any other Forman names from Delaware County, that would be most helpful as well. As I work on family in Delaware County, I have also found a Burdick connection to my Flint family line. The more I research, the more confusing these families become! Any help you can provide will be most appreciated.

I am a descendant of Joseph, Solomon C., Charles Herbert, Hugh Abram, and Almina Emilie Burdick -- the last of the family left in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, not counting some of my own children who remain here. Joseph came to Linn Township, Walworth County in 1836 (or possibly 1838), around the time this town was founded.

My surname is Gygax, my father Ernst being born in Seeburg, Canton Bern, Switzerland. Nonetheless, I am proud of my Burdick heritage, as I believe it is the root of my creative capacity.

I am a grandson of Hugh Abram Burdick of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Likely you've heard of my uncle, Glydewell Burdick, who did some pioneering work in ground heating and cooling pumps, made the Saturday Evening Post back in the late 1950s or early 1960s, as I recall. <[> Frank P. Mueller, the author of "The Burdick Family Chronology" is married to a grand-daughter of my great-great-uncle Byron Burdick, who was a resident of Lake Geneva.

I am aware of one sister, born Rose Nellie Burdick (or Nellie Rose) The Donnelly also appears. On Rose's birth record it shows that she was the 12th birth on record for Rose M. This leads us to believe that there was a prior marraige with 10 children? The family seems to have traveled between eastern Vermont Western N.H. and northern Mass. My father married Patricia B. Wiggins from Lexington, MA and I have four siblings: Bruce Harrison Burdick of NH, Joy E. (Burdick) Dudley of NH, Deborah (Burdick) Copeland of ME, myself; Jennifer L. The Burdick name appears on my husband's side of the family. Her name is Addie Burdick. I really don't know too much. She was born in November of 1863 in Berlin, Rensselaer Co. NY. She married a gentleman by the name of Edwin H. Brock born about the same year (I can't find much on him either). She lived in Petersburg and Raymertown also in Rens. Co. NY. She died December 6, 1933 in Raymertown. Both her and her husband are buried in Meadowlawn/Pleasant Valley cemetary in Rens. Co. I have a copy of the obit for her that appeared in the newspaper and it lists all her children, Effie May, Cora, Frank, Myrtle, Elwin, Blanche, Forrest, Bessie, Hazel, Leland and Lela (twins), Edna, Maud, Jay and Clayton. Her daughter Effie May married Clarence Aaron Hoag. These are my husband's great grandparents. If you have any information you would be willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it. We did check in the Burdick book and Nellie Johnson's CD-Rom. There are several Burdick families in Rens. Co in Grafton but they do not list far enough into the pedigree for Addie. If you have any suggestions as to where to look or which direction to go in, I am willing to try anything. Thank you very much in advance.

I have a collateral - William C. Burdick, son of Ethan & Mary E., born April 1847 in Rhode Island. He married my family member Betsey Warren Whipple, dau. of Benjamin Whipple & Hannah Emeline Clark Kenyon (whose first husband was George S. Peckham), 20 Oct. 1867 in Hopkiinton, RI.

Their son, Allen Anderson Burdick, was born 12 Aug. 1868 in Hopkinton. By 1870 William was married to Elizabeth and living with her and Allen (age 2) in Hopkinton. I haven't found any record of a divorce, but known that Betsey remarried and lived until 1935. This is the last record I have of Allen, but haven't found a death record for this child.

In 1880 William, age 39 (?) is found in Stonington, CT, single, fish pedlar.

In 1882 William married for the third time - to Isabella A. Sullivan Bliven - on Dec. 31st in Westerly, RI.

In 1900 William C. Burdick is found in Massachusetts State Prison, age 52, b. Aug 1847, Rhode Island, single, occ. fish cutter. Just wondering if anyone out there has any info regarding his incarceration, his son, what happened to his wives?

I found my grandfather, Marsh Bundy Burdick, in the 1870 census and his fathe, CHARLES SAUNDERS BURDICK, and his family at that time:

Wife:Lydia Perkins Burdick
Children: Geroge E Born:Abt 1853
Minevera Born: Abt 1855
Lydia Born: Abt 1866
Frank Born: Abt 1867
Charles Born: Abt 1869

Marsh wasn't on the census because he wasn't born until 1881. Charles would have been 57 years old when Marsh was born. Lydia was about 20 years younger than Charles. Does anyone have any information about the other children?

I had no idea that this would be the gigantic leap into the massive Burdick family. I'd like to say that I appreciate the responses that I rec'd since I first posted my query.

Bertha Burdick has been found among the intangled families that have names so similar, but at least I can pass this information to the Burdick descendants in VA, who had no clue as to how to find her. My bit of contribution for the many who have helped me to find my BALDWINS, MOYER/MAYER etc. families.

Mr. Jones at the Onondago Library told me that Bertha BURDICK was born in Ballston Spa, and that is how I found her.

#3 Emma Carman, born 1870 dau / o Albert Carman & T___ Dundas, N. Winthrop, Canada.

John L. Burdick, born 1860, no definite proof of patents, , but logical it is John Burdick born 1818 and Martha W.born 1820, even though they had a son John Edgar, born 1849. John L. age 10 living with the Samuel W. CARMAN 1870, with a Benjamin, but the age is hard to read, appears it is 82. ????.

Saratoga has the 1855 census on line. Great Job!! So now to work on that.

If anyone has this in their gen, I would appreciate some direction.

I have been researching my family on both sides for about 20 years and have had great success and I was amazed to see how our records were so alike. My Dad was Charles Joshua Elster, b in Pikesville N.Y and marrried my mother Mary Ella Walker from Cherokee Co. NC. Dad's parents are Abbie S. Greene from NY and Jerome M. Elster.

I am an experienced genealogist, not a professional. I am in the Burdick, Matteson, Greene line and my research goes back to Adam! It has been difficult doing my northern lines but by many hours of research I have been quite sussessful. I would to hear from you. I believe our research will be right along on the same track but in comparing we might find out something we did not know.

My father's ancestors came into the country mostly through Mass. Left there due to religous persicution and went to Rhode Island and helped Roger Williams found Rhode Island and lived in a cluster of people. Then most of my families migrated to New York State around Alma, Hornell, Elmira. My dad's people lived at Elmira and I know that is where my Greene family lived during my lifetime. I had never been to Elmira until we took a trip to Maine a few years ago and the only place I could identify with was my aunt Lillliam Clark's house. But none of the family still lived there. I only met about 7 or my father's family but we did communicate with them on a regular basis.

I will post my line and be able to tell some of the other lines, ( just the names) so I can help others find their families. I am at the stage where I am more interested in helping others more than seeking help. Yet it is nice being able to read your posts. I will be glad to correspond or hear from other Burdick researchers.

My name is Donald Burdick (no middle name), b. Queens, NY, Nov. 6, 1934, son of Harry J. (Joseph) Burdick, b. New Haven, CT, Jun 23, 1897, d. May 28, 1977, Athens, GA and Elsie Mary Donath, b. Nov. 10, 1906, Bronx, NY, d. Apr. 12, 2003, Homdel, NJ. 3.c. Donald Burdick married Nancy Ann Stover, Jun. 6, 1959, 4 c.

Harry J. Burdick, son of William F. (Frances) Burdick, b. Aug. 17, 1869, New Haven, CT, d. Oct. 13, 1957, New Haven, CT and Mary Canon, b. Feb. 23, 1869, Ireland, d. May 18, 1914, New Haven, CT, m. ?, 7 c.

William F. Burdick, son of William C. (Clark) Burdick, b. Dec. 1842 (?), Charleston, RI or Stonington, CT, d. Jun. 13, 1897, New Haven (Fair Haven), CT and Mary Reynolds, b. 1845, Ireland, d. Mar. 26, 1924, New Haven, CT.

William C. Burdick, enlisted in the Civil War, Co. E, 21st Regt. Conn. Vol. Aug. 22, 1862 at Stonington, CT. He suffered a head wound and dysentery at the battle of Fredricksburg, VA, and was honorably discharged May 3, 1863. William C. Burdick married Mary Reynolds Jul. 10, 1866, New Haven, CT. They had 9 children, one of which was my grandfather, William F. Burdick.

We believe that William C. (Clark) Burdick was born in either Charleston, RI or Stonington, CT. Also, that his parents were either Jonathan and Hannah Burdick (both born in RI) or Jonathan and Ann (Coon) Burdick ( both born in RI), with his mother, Ann (Coon) Burdick living (his father, Jonathan Burdick having died in 1858) in Stonington, CT at the time William C. enlisted in the Civil War. Any information provided to help clarify William C. Burdick's parentage, i.e. names of father/mother, their place of birth and dates, marriage date, place and dates of death,as well as the place and birth date of William C. (Clark) Burdick will be greatly appreciated.

We have searched vital data from both RI and CT, also US Census data from 1860 and 1880. We also have the book, The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island by Nellie Willard Johnson. We believe my great grandfather to be the William C. listed under entry 2031, p.768 of this book but seek confirmation. We believe the marriage entry "(1) Mary Robinson" to be an error and think that this should be Mary Reynolds. We know that the marriage enty "(2) Amy A. Holloway," is definitely an error, as we have confirmed information that Amy A. Holloway married William C. (Crandall) Burdick. The words, "He d. Fair Haven, Conn.," are correct as William C. (Clark) Burdick did die there. The 1860 Census for Stonington, CT shows as head of household, an Ann Burdick (her husband Jonathan having died in 1858) with one of her children, William, age 18 and occupation, "Farmer." This we believe to be our William C. Burdick as his Civil War enlistment at Stonington, Aug. 22, 1862, shows him to be 19 years, 8 months and occupation, "Farmer."

I'm trying to research the ancestors of my wife and children. I live in Statesboro, Georgia, so access to records from the Northern States is very limited. Anyway, I stumbled on a query on the Burdick Website and it had just enough items to peek my interest.

All I have is that Emily E. Burdick was born in June of 1858 in North Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. She married Lorenzo Gardner who was born in July 1861 (probably Hoosic, Rensselaer County, New York). They had at least four children (probably in Berkshire County):

Lyman Burdick (b. 1882) who married Eva. E. Reynolds then later Dorothy M. Waldren
Harriet L. (b. 1884)
Ethel M. (b. 1892)
There was another child but I can't make out anything about the spelling.

It does appear this family was associated with the community of "Burdicksville". Can you help fill in anything? Does any of these families ring a bell? HELP me if you can.

Charles W. Burdick, my great grandfather, was born September 2, 1833 in Albany, NY. He married Mary A. Wood (date unknown). They were parents of Charles Burdick, Gertrude Burdick Floyd Burdick and Annie Burdick. He is thought to have had a second marriage and to have died somewhere in Iowa July 7, 1889. Does anyone in the Burdick family have any more definite information than that? I would appreciate anything that anyone can tell me.

I am trying to find Albert Cummings family of Sarah Burdick and her husband William Burdick who relocated to Mt. Morris, New York between 1850 and 1860. Sarah it is believed was wife of a CUMMINGS who died and then remarried William BURDICK and had several more children. Am trying to locate any of the said BURDICK family to find more information on Albert and his mother Sarah.
