My Dad, Sanley Burdick, passed away on the 14th of October of this year. He was 75 years young and a veteran of WW2. He recieved the purple heart (I've seen the scar) I believe in Germany near the end of the war. He spent his later years running cruise boats and sport fishers from Texas to Hilton Head South Carolina. Dad had a 1,000 ton Captain's license and used it. He is survived by his brother Irving (Stanfordville NY), and sisters Marion (Florida) and Lois (North Carolina). All I can say is Dad lived life to the fullest never looking back. He always had a smile and was very well liked by all who had the pleasure of his aquaintance.

John and Emma BURDICK, daughter, Bertha M. Burdick, born 17 Mar 1886, died 3 May 1933, she is found to be wife of William Daniel Moyer, Canastota to Syracuse, Onandago County, NY.

She is not my direct line, but a sister-in-law to my grandmother, Margaret Anna Moyer Derouin. Bertha's ancestors seem elusive to me, but did find her as wife of William.

I would like to find John and Emma, so I can pass the information to Bertha's daughter, Beverly's descendants that I found in VA.

I had the privilege of finding Beverly a few months before she died in Schenectady. She informed me that William's grandfather was a Mayer, not a Moyer, making it possible to find him in Germany. She thought that a Fred Moyer was her grandfather, but I proved to her family that it was indeed John Moyer, I hope she was not distressed by this, but I had to reveal it, she died shortly afterward, Beverly's mother died when she was six, was sent to live with her maternal grandparents, other relatives and an orphanage, as her father could not assume the role of father.

Possibly someone on the list would have a relationship with John and Emma. I would appreciate any clues to help me in my search.

I am originally from a small town in Massachusetts with a familiar name of Florida. It has a population of 400 or so people. Most of them are Burdicks. It’s beautiful little town settled on top of the tallest mountain peak in the area. The original Burdick in the town was a Lyman Burdick. I don’t know how he is related to me but I’m sure my father can tell me. My heritage as I know it is:

Kerry David Burdick
Lawrence Alvin Burdick
Lawrence Myron Burdick
Jerome Burdick

Reading your site has prompted me to want to research my background. As a rookie I don’t have the foggiest how but I will learn and probably be a frequent flyer here. I do know that the Family Crest I’ve seen here is also ours. So I have a start. Next stop is my Dad.

My father's cousin, Annette Wormuth b. 1904, probably in Boonville, Oneida Co., NY, married Rexford Burdick, b. 1905 in NY. In 1930 Census, they lived in Liverpool, Onondaga Co., NY. They had two sons, Philip b. 1927, and Richard. When the parents died, the boys were raised by grandparents, Philip by Bert and Grace (Jackson) Wormuth of Boonville, and Richard by their father's parents. Philip married Eleanor (?) and lived in Boonville. I would like to connect Rexford's ancestry to many Burdick's of Turin or Greig, in Lewis Co., near Boonville, whose records I have collected. I appreciate any help, and will be happy to share records on the Jackson side of this family with any descendants!

Daniel is listed as the oldest voter in the State of Wisconsin, when he died at the age of 102, in 1906. He never missed an election, from his first one in New York in 1836, till he died. I have identified many descendants thru obits at the library, but would love to hear from any descendants. I am seeking information about Daniel Burdick in your next. Daniel was born 15 Feb 1778 in what was at the time, Vermont, but the boundaries were changed in 1781 and his birth place and place of residence became Washington County, New York. In the 1820 census he is living in Rensselaer County, New York and in the 1830 census he is living in Genesee County, New York. He must have had the "wonderlust" because in the 1840 census he is living in Lake County, Ohio and in the 1850 census he finally settled down in Berrien County, Michigan where he died in March 1872. He married Charlotte Stewart (may have been his second wife) and had 4 daughters, Hannah Loretta b. 25 Feb 1815, Betsy Maria b. 5 Jun 1820, Eliza Jane b. 14 Jul 1822 and Polly Catharine b. 23 Mar 1832 and one son, Stephen Vinson b. 18 Jul 1827.

I would like to find some of my family but don't know how to go about it. My dad was quite a notorious character, maybe no one wants to say they are related to him, but I guess we can't choose who sires us. I would love to find out what I can about our family. My father, Keith Vernon Burdick, was born 11-28-1920. Not sure of the year but maybe not the date of birth. I don't know much else except he had a brother named William and a sister named Barbara and, I think, maybe 2 more siblings. My Mother's name was June Idell Ubber Burdick born March 21, 1920, I don't know where she was born, though.

He has left 6 of us so I thought someone should know about us. I would like to record all of our info for the next genersations to find when we are gone. He hasn't passed on his tendancy to disobey the rules to the rest of us, we are all good standing community members.

I am new to all of this and find it fascinating. I Looked through some records on the Internet but I couldn't find my mom or my dad. I can find no record of myself either. Can you help me figure out how to search for all that stuff. If you would like more info let me know. I have had 2 strokes and would very much like to have it all done before I am incapactited. I am 54 years old. My mom and Dad are both gone. I know my mom's death date but not my dad's. Maybe you can help find him. I don't know exactly how to search for this information. Any help would be great. Thanks, Dawn.

My name is Sue Mason Ames and I, along with two newly found cousins, are researching the Cummings surname in particular of Albert H. Cummings. His mother's name was Sarah ???. In the 1850 Oakfield, Genesee Co. New York, Federal census, Albert is listed with a William and Sarah Burdick family. There are Three other children listed with the last name of Burdick. Albert being the only one with last name of Cummings. We have guessed that his father had died and his mother remarried William Burdick. I have traced the Burdicks through census living in Mt. Morris New York, Livingston Co. Several more children were born. Albert in the 1860 Elba New York, Genesee co. was listed with Harry Shedd family. He (Albert) married Pluma, a daughter, and lived in Elba NY until ca 1883 when they moved to Wisconsin.

Our question, is this William Burdick and wife Sarah related to your Burdick Family. If so do you have anymore information on Sarah, possibly where she was born and her maiden name, parents etc., also when and where she died and is buried.

It has been very hard tracing Albert as he seems to just appear out of no where. It is said his father's name is also Albert and was born in Scotland. We seem to have several places of birth for our Albert depending on where you look. Census says Ohio, death certif. says Alabama and death certif of son says Maryland and family for some reason has Alabama, Genesee co New York state. (it is town next to Oakfield).

If you can help, we would be very grateful.

I am trying to confirm who Welcome S. Burdick of NY parents were, and when he passed away and where he is buried. He was born around 1833 in NY. He married a cousin of mine.

I've found Welcome S. Burdick in the 1860 census in Barton, Tioga Co., NY, with his family. During the Civil War, he enlisted in the Union Army from this town and was released from service on 20 Sept., 1865. I've searched through more than half of the 1870 census for Barton so far and I've not found him or his wife, Isabelle, my cousin, listed. She appears in the 1880 census widowed, living in Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY.

I'm not sure but it appears that his parents were Harrison W. and Eliza Burdick of De Ruyter, Madison Co., NY. They are in the 1850 census with a son, Welcome, age 17, living with them. This Welcome's birth year of about 1833 matches my Welcome's. I wonder if Harrison's middle initial "W" stands for Welcome? Additional data on them is shown below. Can anyone confirm Welcome S. Burdick is Harrison W. Burdick's son? And if so, who were Harrison's parents? Thanks.

Welcome S. Burdick 1833 - 1880 b: 1833 in NY d: Bef. 1880 in NY. Military service: Civil War: Enlisted as a Private in Co. C, 161st Infantry Regiment NY on 23 Dec 1863 in Barton, Tioga Co., NY at the age of 30. Mustered out on 20 Sept 1865. Census: 1860: Was living with his wife & 2 dau's in Barton, Tioga Co., NY.

+Isabella Agnes Davis 1834 - 1909 b: March 1834 in or 1840; NY m: December 20, 1853 in Corning, Steuben Co., NY d: 1909 in Prob. Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY Census: 1880: Was living widowed with 2 daugthers in Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY; 1900: Was living widowed, with no children, in Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY.. Individual Note: As of 1900, 1 of her 2 children was deceased. She rec'd her husband Civil War pension in 1890.

My grandfather's name was Howard Burdick. He was married to Katherine Page Burdick for a number of years, and they produced 3 sons: Howard, William & Clinton DeWitt Burdick. My uncle Howard married Grace & they had 4 daughters, Allison, Claire & 2 others whose names I can't recall - Howard passed away a number of years ago in Spokane, WA, and I think I heard that Grace has since re-married. I believe Allison is also married & has children. My uncle DeWitt and his wife Connie live in Brentwood, CA & have 3 children: Tim, Megan & Chris, who is the youngest but the only one with kids of his own. My dad, William, married Lois Richardson and had me and 2 younger sisters Deborah Page & Heather - we grew up for the most part in the Philadelphia area, although both Bill & Lois were from Brooklyn (the Heights), NY. My children, James (21), Lauren (18) & William (7) live here in Charleston, SC, while Page's children, Justin (21), Jameson (17) & Jennifer Cloud (14) live in NJ. My grandfather Howard lived in New York City and Long Island for a number of years. I know he, Kate & the boys "summered" in Westhampton, NY, since my parents still maintain a small house in that area of Long Island, NY...

Please excuse the above detail, but I have never known much about my grandfather Howard from NYC, and I thought by contributing a little bit of this history, there might be an outside chance you may know something of this man - I hear he moved to California (San Francisco area perhaps) when my father & his brothers were in their twenties.

FREDERIC BURDICK's family (in the 1880 census) includes:
LIBBIE (21) although her age might be 31, LIZZIE (11), KATIE (9), FREDDIE (6), EDDIE (4), JAMES (2).
If this is the same Frederick as above, he would have been 30 or 31 in 1880.

My 88 year old mother-in-law is a Burdick, and I am researching her line as a gift to her. I am stuck on one ancestor, Elisha T. Burdick, who was born, married and died in Grafton, Rensselaer Co., NY in the 1800s. I have been unable to identify Elisha's parents. The Nellie Johnson work contained a possible lead, but it was inaccurate. Here are some specifics about Elisha T. Burdick:

Born in Grafton, Rensselaer Co., NY 28 November 1812.
Married Charlotte Phillips (daughter of Benjamin Phillips and Phebe Smith).
in Grafton 1 February 1834.
Died in Grafton 10 March 1868.

Elisha and Charlotte had four children who grew to adulthood:
*Aaron Melvin Burdick married Hannah M. Green.
*Sarah Delila Burdick married Steward Allen.
*Mary Priscilla Burdick married Daniel James Peckham.
*Lois Louise Burdick married Justus A. Phillips.

When Elisha T. died in 1868 the following appeared in the Lansingburgh Gazette: "Elisha T. Burdick, a well known politician, died suddenly at his home in Grafton, on Tuesday, of apoplexy. He was about fifty years of age. Mr. Burdick was one of the doorkeepers in the State Senate at the time of his decease."

I think Elisha's father was Jeremiah and his mother Mary, but I have no hard evidence. Nathan T. Burdick and Benjamin Burdick may have been brothers of Elisha. These assumptions are based on cemetery and property records, but I lack any hard evidence. Any help will be appreciated.

I am the descendent of Florence Anly Burdick, born July 23, 1828, died April 27, 1896 in Burke County, Georgia. I do not know who her parents were. She married Roberson Tarver in 1850. In the 1840 census, Roberson's father, Mark, was enumerated 2 households away from a "Mrs. Burdict", who had 1 male 5 to 10, 1 female 5 to 10, 2 females 15 to 20, and 1 female 30 to 40 (all white). I am assuming Florence Anly was one of the females in this household although her age is not correct. I believe Florence's little brother was Blackshear Burdick, who is in her mother-in-law's household (Sarah Greenway Tarver) in the 1850 census. There are two other Burdick women of a similar age in the area at the time. Marcilla Burdick first married William Tinley of Richmond County (just north of Burke, and where Augusta is) in 1842 with whom she had 2 children. After his death, she married Oliver Gardener Tarver, a brother of Roberson and a son of Mark. Before William Tinley's death, they had purchased land from another son of Mark, James Wilson Tarver, and became close neighbors of Roberson and Florence. I think it is probable that Marcilla and Florence were sisters. Another women, Maria Burdick, married Wm. Vinson Tinley in Richmond County in 1855.

There was also a family of Burdicks in Richmond County at the time, 3 of whom joined the CSA. Benjamin, Ezekiel Luther, and George, who may have been brothers. They joined Co. D of the 14th Bn. of the St. Guards. I have information on Ezekiel Luther Burdick, born April 25, 1838 in Newport RI, d. Nov 28, 1918 in Brunswick GA. He married Mary Ella Riley on Oct 19, 1879. They had 3 daughters, Florine (Davis), Lucille (Farr), and Clarice (Walker).

Anyway, if you have any information on Burdicks who ended up in Georgia, please let me know. Unless I find old correspondence squirreled away with cousins I have not yet located, I don't know how I will track down Florence Anly's parents.

Thanks for you time.

My line comes down from (1) Robert Burdick as follows:

(2) Hubbard Burdick (3) John Burdick (4) Joshua Burdick (5) Eliza Burdick, who married Issac Brown (6) Adah Brown, who married Horace Butrick (7) Josephine Butrick who married Curtis Hollopeter (8) Mildred Ada Hollopeter who married Charles W. Bauldry (9) Eva Nell Bauldry, who married Milton V. Bergman (10) Raymond W. Bergman, who married Joan C. Brattleaf

I have 2 children. A son Douglas R. Bergman, who married Mary Tranchina. They have two children, Brett 5 and Brendan 2. And a daughter, Saundra R. Bergman.

I worked in the graphics arts industry as a graphic designer and art director for 40 years and retired in 1999. I am now trying to catch up on my genealogical research.

Finding a connection to Robert Burdick was the first big break in my genealogical research. A family Bible listed Eliza Burdick, born 8 July 1801, marrying Issac Brown, born 1795 in Preston, Conn. The Bible and a copy of their marriage certificate reads as follows: "Issac Brown of Preston, and Eliza Burdick of Griswold were married November 22nd, 1818 in New London County, Conn."

Their daughter Adah Brown married Horace Butrick in Rauine, WT in 1845. At least that's the way I read the script handwriting. I had no idea where this was. Later research showed this to be Racine County, Wisconsin Territory, as they had settled there prior to Wisconsin becoming a state. They came in the late 1830's. Statehood for Wisconsin came in 1848.

With the information from this bible, I went to the Newberry Library in Chicago, where I was able to access Nellie Johnson's book "The descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island". In this book I found a listing for Eliza Burdick and her marriage to Issac Brown. This information matched what I had in the family Bible. Then I followed my line back to Robert. The family Bible took it forward to my great grandmother Josephine Butrick. And from there, if was easily traceable to me.

I tie into the Burdick family through Lydia Burdick who married Benjamin Davis. I had always thought that she was the daughter of Joseph Burdick and Mary Tanner. Recently I found an alternate set of parents - Abel Burdick and Comfort Palmer. Can you direct me to an Internet site that might confirm her ancestry one way or the other. I'm in the process of documenting my entire genealogy. I'd hate to be off this early in the genealogy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Would you please verify the following information?

The Burdick Family claims that Joseph Langworthy married Elizabeth Burdick "before 1729" and that this Joseph was the son of Robert Langworthy/Mary Brownell and grandson of the original American patriarch Andrew Langworthy. Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, Elizabeth Burdick was the daughter of Deacon Robert Burdick and Rebecca Foster and granddaughter of the original American patriarch Robert Burdick.

THE DESCENDANTS OF ROBERT BURDICK OF RHODE ISLAND (1937) in the DAR library here in Washington, D.C. (1937), at page 28, continues that this Joseph L. and his wife Elizabeth (Burdick) had two children: Joseph who married Azuba McWithey and Robert who married Susannah Appley The following credits are cited: "Austin's Gen. Dict; Arnold's V. S. of R. I.; Hist. of Hopkington, R. I.; R. I. Col. Recs.; Census of R. I., 1774; Westerly Land Recs.; Stonington, Conn., Land Recs.; Hopkinton Land Recs.; Lewisiana."

Our Langworthy website genealogist Hal Langworthy claims that information above for Robert Langworthy and Mary Brownell is inaccurate. Please see:

I am looking for information regarding Elias Wheeler married a JENNIE BURDICK in the early 1800's. I believe this wedding took place close to the PA/OH border in the area of Linesville, PA & andover, n. Kingsville, OH between 1850/60. In 1870 he was living alone in the Lincolnville, PA area and his dad, Daniel Wheeler, was living with him. He was 64 years old. I am looking for info abt the marriage, I strongly believe they married, as it is in our Wheeler family records.

I was born in PA in 1937. My maternal Grandmother's maiden name was Burdick. My parents and I moved to California soon after I was born and eventually I migrated to Hawaii in 1958 for school. I married had three children (all middle aged now), and divorced in 1985 after 25 years of marriage. I work for the Government as an Engineering Tech, CAD/GIS manager, love my work, and intend to work as long as God allows. This may be a shock to many, but... at 65 years old I still ride a motorcycle... an 883 Harley Sportster. (smile) I found out recently that many of my Cousins also love the sport. I'm in excellent health.

I don't have the Burdick name but that doesn't matter. At least know where I came from, and that's wonderful. I have family in California and Pa, all great, great great and soon to be great great great grandchildren of Lena Burdick,

Must get back to work........

Sincerely Carol Sinclair (Mother, Ann Manno) (Grandma, Lena Burdick)

I am the Grand daughter of Robert Lee Burdick of Oshkosh, Wi. I have traced my family back to Germany. I have hit a brick wall and would love it if I could find someone or something to help me.

I am the Daughter of Susan (Burdick) Garthwaite, who is the oldest of five children: Patricia (Burdick) Schroeder; Bonnie (Burdick)Webb; John Burdick; Mary Burdick, all children of Robert L. and Betty (Snell) Burdick. He has 3 brothers Orville H., Ronald A., and Herbert H. Jr (who died in Korea) Their parents where Herbert and Theresa (Pollack) Burdick, he had one brother Walter and Vera (Gehrke) Burdick; They were the Children of Henry and Bertha(Degner) Burdick. All of the Oshkosh, Wi and surrounding areas. I know that Bertha came to this country from Germany sometime between 1868 and 1887. She lived in Cleveland, Wi and was previously married to Eptic Sanborn and had 5 children. Can not find any info on Henry Burdick possible middle name of William (or it could be his first name, this family liked there middle names and often used them as there first names)

There are about 20 Burdicks in my family tree that live in Wisconsin. In my family a lot of Burdick's served in the Military: National Guard, and Air Force (at least just what I have found so far). I'd like to find some connections to other Burdick families!

I am a Burdick (my Mother's side), and I have some limited knowledge of the family history. I have our copy of The Descendants of Robert Burdick, through which I was able to verify many points stated by my Grandma, Lillian Ross Burdick of Pittsburgh(1893-1978).

The book stops one generation before me. My name is Charles Lawrence Murray, son of Harriet Noelle Burdick of Philadelphia (Chester), PA (1926-1988), grandson of Dr. Lawrence Wylie Burdick of Albion, WI.

I have a few family heirlooms. I had one that was very significant but was lost in a fire in 1988; a bullet that was removed from the leg of a Great Grandfather in the Civil War. I still have a family bible that I would like to find out more about. I was told that it was brought from England in the hands of Robert Burdick, but I believe there is an error since I found a date in the 1700s. I also have a pistol which was carried by Lawrence Wylie Burdick during the WWI race riots, and an oil painting of the Burdick family homestead in Albion, WI painted by Lawrence T. Burdick.

I can email pictures of the above, and receive opinions on the Bible.

A Jennie Burdick married an Elias Wheeler in the mid-1800's. Place of marriage is not known but this Elias was living in the Elinesville, PA area. My Wheeler records state they were married in Ohio, and they moved to Centerville/Lincolnville PA area. It is believed she might have died in that area. The 1870 census for Lincolnville lists his age as 28 years. This info, which is very brief, is in my wheeler family records. I am hoping you might have some info. In a town called Westfield, NY there was Clarence Burdick who had a gas and oil station. do you know of this?

By U.S. census and Lawler Cemetery records I have Sanford/Sanforth, father of Harley/Harlan/Harlow Merrill BURDICK, born around 1795, died 22 Aug 1838 Pavilion, Kalamazoo County MI. I wasn't too impressed by the enumerator's attention to detail, but cemetery records are likely more accurate, especially since his wife Abigail's interred there too. I've found two other records online of a Sanford born Nov 1788 New Castle, CT, died 26 Aug 1835 Sullivan, Madison Co., NY. Is it possible that "my" MI Harlow's not the same one, maybe a junior, but also has an Abigail for a wife?
