I'm just now beginning to trace my lineage in the Burdick family. Here is what I have so far:

Dorrance and Adelia (Graves) Burdick
Eustace and Elizabeth (Kinne) Burdick
Kenneth and Ann (Patrick) Burdick
Mark Burdick

My sister (Terry Burdick LaChute) and I were born in New Orleans, LA, but my father (Kenneth) was born in Frankfort, NY. The family moved to New Orleans from Utica, NY when my father was young. I lived in New Orleans for 36 years before moving to Celebration, FL - I am a Senior Programmer Analyst for Walt Disney World. How ironic to find out that the Burdick Inernational Ancestry Library is so near to where I moved! I can't wait to check it out!

In the meantime, if anyone has any information on Dorrance Burdick and/or Adelia Graves Burdick, I would appreciate it!! I also remember having some relatives in Arkansas that may be related to Dorrance....

Thanks again! My email address is mark.burdick@celebration.fl.us

I thank you for any help you may be able to offer. Looking for info on great grandfather, Albert Theodore Burdick (7/13/1867-2/25/1925). According to what I have he had a brother Henry, (half brother), a sister Isa, (spelling ?), and another sister Ina, (spelling ?). He was born in the Tampico, Bureau, Illinois. His father was Ancil A. Burdick mother Lomira McKenzie. Also looking for info on Ancil And Lomira.

The tree I have so far put together lists seven generations and if is correct goes back to a John Burdick of NY, Ancil Almarion Burdick's father, but I have not been able to prove the Ancil I have is correct and fill in all of the downline from John as yet. That is where I am today.

I have had Frank's book for a couple of years now but have still not been able to make any real connections to anyone in it as yet.

Any help would be appriciated. Thank you, Eldie

As always, I'm eager to hear from others withBURDICK roots, especially from New York, CT & RI in the 16, 17, & 1800s. I'd love to compare ties.

I am an historian researching Mr. J.H. Burdick who was a graduate of Woodbury's Business College (now known as Woodbury University) in Los Angeles in 1887. The school's records for many years have been derelict and I (as an alumni myself) have been in the process of restoring the alumni rolls for the past six years. As I locate individuals, I make the best attempt to create a bio on them for the history and posterity. Do you have any information on this individual? I appreciate your assistance.

I'm searching for details & paternal & maternal lineage of Desire BURDICK (d. 3 April 1869, Lake County OH)

Desire BURDICK said to have been born in NY (or CT) married first Sylvanus GIFFORD then Henry or Harry PATE. Those who have read the BURDICK book say that it appears that her father was Ephraim BURDICK, though the information is sketchy at best & conflicting at worst.

Single issue from Desire's first marriage:
William Sylvanus GIFFORD b. 14 Dec 1814, Otsego Co NY,
d. 26 Oct 1902, Madison, Lake Co. OH.

William's son George GIFFORD b. 07 June 1839 Madison OH
d. 17 May 1906, Madison OH.

George's daughter Mary Ellen GIFFORD (MCMACKIN)
b. 08 Feb 1875, Lake Pleasant Erie Co, PA.
d. 06 April 1969, Ashtabula, OH

Mary Ellen's son Jay Allison McMACKIN
b. 10 April 1906, Madison OH
d. 21 Dec 1992, Fort Pierce, FL

Jay's daughter Susan McMACKIN is this researcher.

Jackson Township, IN USA - Monday, October 11, 1999
Found your website on a search. Actually the Burdick map is what came up, but I shortened the URL and got your site.

I was interested because of the Village of Burdick, Indiana. It is located in Jackson Township, Porter County. I am the Township Trustee for Jackson Township and also from a family who has resided in and around Burdick since 1869. I'm working on a historical page for my township website and have accumulated a number of articles on Burdick. There are 2 gentlemen who have given talks on Burdick.

You have suggested that an Albert C. Burdick founded the village. One resident, who lives on one of the parcels, has a name of Ambrose Burdick, married to Phoebe. I will have to check with her as to where she got her information, but I think I remember her saying she has the land abstract. My copy of the 1882 History of Lake and Porter Counties, only used the initials of A.C. when referring to the village. I didn't see an Ambrose referred to in your site.

The new subdivision, Burdick Place is actually 2 miles west of the Village of Burdick and the Village of East Burdick. The Burdick school (struck by a tornado) location, a half mile west of the village, I believe was the area called New Burdick. I'll check with the relatives. Burdick had a store (still standing), a train station, church and a post office. A number of the old homes are still there. Burdick Place was named for the road itself. Burdick Road runs through Westchester, Jackson and Pine Townships, dead-ending at the County Line.

If you would like for me to check further into these things, let me know! It would be interesting to have a little family history in my website. I also have spoken to the Jackson Alumni and one would like to assist in writing a book of Jackson Township history. He called this morning for my address to send some suggestions. I'd love to include whatever information you can provide that relates to this Township!

The area known as new Burdick was actually about a mile EAST of Burdick. There are 5 homes in this area.

I'm looking forward to your response!

I was reading your Website and need some advice. I want to search my Cincinnati OH library for your 1937 family genealogy because I think we are connected. Do you have enough knowledge of the book to tell me where in it to look?

My Great Grandfather, Samuel C. (Clark?) Crandall married Barbara Burdick in Washington CO RI. They had a son in 1790 they named Parker Burdick Crandall. I believe that Sam also married a woman named Hannah but that is another story

I know little about Samuel, mostly because there are so many Samuel Crandalls I can not find the right one for sure. And I know nothing about Barbara but a lot about Parker. PB Crandall was born 1790 in RI, d. in 1840 in Steuben CO NY, near Painted Post. I have the land deeds to the land he owned in NY and of course all of his 7 children.

This line is not yet claimed as part of the RI Crandall family but I have been discussing this with Earl Crandall.

Barbara Burdick may be the link I am searching for. Please help if you can.

My Mother was a Crandall and her Crandall relatives all descend from Parker and are mostly living in Bradford PA.

My name is Brenda Mizgorski and my grandmother's name was Rubie Josephine Burdick. I have thoroughly enjoyed first finding your site and then perusing all of its interesting information. I am 32 years old and since high school I have found learning about my ancestors to be a fascinating and fun hobby.

This last summer my husband and I were in Mystic Connecticut and on our way up the New England coast I saw we were very close to Westerly Rhode Island and I remembered it from tracing my roots. We stopped off for a quick drive through Westerly hoping to find a cemetery or some traces of my heritage. Instead of finding a cemetery I popped into the city library and emerged some four hours later! Needless to say, it put a crimp in our driving schedule that day since we had only traveled 9 miles from Mystic and had to get all the way up to Bar Harbor, Maine!! In Westerly, I mainly checked out a couple books on the early history of Westerly and I found a copy of Frank P. Mueller's Book in their genealogy room.

After we got out of Westerly, I noticed on the map there was a Burdicksville close by - so we had to go! I notice you have a picture of a Burdicksville street sign on your site and you are right, it was sure hard to know if you were in Burdicksville. I took a picture of a bridge named Burdicksville Bridge and I would be happy to scan the photo for you and send it to you.

Anyway, just wanted to say "thanks" for putting together such a nice site. Also, when I was in Westerly I copied the order form for Frank P. Mueller's - The Burdick Family Chronology and wanted to know if Mr. Mueller is still shipping copies of his book. Any information on how I can get a copy of this book or other Burdick newsletters, etc. would be greatly appreciated. If you have any information about Benjamin Burdick (I notice your lineage is from his brother (I think), Deacon Robert Burdick) I would greatly appreciate it.

Graham James Burdick < gb@clara.co.uk>
Norfolk, England UK - Tuesday, September 28, 1999
Greetings from England. I am Graham James Burdick, a Creative Consultant living in Norfolk and one of the very small handful in this country who share our unusual surname. (Clearly we have not been so successful at spreading our seed as our far more numerous colonial cousins!) I am directly descended from Robert Burdick, 1715-1754 of Abbottsham, nr. Westward Ho! in North Devonshire. Although there are earlier Burdicks listed here I have been unable to establish any further links. There appear to be three groups of Burdicks in this country, those in Yorkshire (my close relatives) those in Devon (distant relatives) and in London (as yet unrelated). The London Burdicks predate the others but neither I nor Peter Burdick of Exeter have been able to establish who went where and when. The earliest Burdick that I have discovered is a Nicholas who was married to Elizabeth Coarse on May 23rd 1574 at St Peter's Church, Cornhill in London. They christened a son Julian in 1575 and Roger on 31st March 1577 at St Botolph, Bishopgate, London. (Both of these parishes are in the old city centre - authentic Cockney territory - now the financial centre.) So it would seem that all of us are descended from either Cockney sparrows or Devonshire fisherfolk. No royalty I am afraid - but then they are all foreigners!

My great grandmother was Florence Marie BURDICK. I have very little information on her and am looking for anyone who can help. This is what I have been told about Florence. Florence was born in Nebraska. I have no information on her parents. She had at least 2 siblings. Mabel Mae BURDICK, after whom Florence named her twin daughters, Mabel and Mae. And Melvin BURDICK, born about 1880. Florence married William Allen FENSTERMACHER in the early to mid 1890s and they had 7 children starting in 1896 and ending in 1905. The children were as follows: Paul, Audley, Howard, Clarence, Mabel, Mae, Mildred. They moved around somewhat. Mabel and Mae were born in Nebraska but Mae died a year later in Portland Oregon and Mildred was born there also. They later settled in Putnam Oklahoma. In about 1907 Florence, who is said to have suffered from epilepsy, was taken back to Kearney Nebraska by her parents and put into a mental institution. William remained in Oklahoma and raised the children. William and Florence exchanged letters until her death in the late 1920s or early 1930s. I know that Florence had 2 BURDICK nieces and 1 BURDICK nephew. Their names were Bill, Nora and Mae. Mae married a GAINES and Nora married a MARTIN or MORTON. This is all the info I have. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I am looking for my Burdick ansistors. This is the only information I have. I would like to find the parents of Henry Burdick.

Notes for Louisa Maria GOODRICH:
Louisa Maria Goodrich was born in Delaware County, NY. The daughter of Hiram and Elmira BURDICK Goodrich. The family moved from NY to Penn., to Indiana, then to Lynn County Iowa where she met and married Andrew V. Eastman. They lived in Grant and Lafayette counties for a period of over forty years.

Taken from: Commemorative Biographical Records of the counties, Rock, Green, Grant, and Lafayette Wisconsin. P 203, 204

Notes for Hiram M. GOODRICH:
Elmira/ Almira Burdick and Henry were married in 1824. Most of his children moved and settled in or near Grinell, Iowa. Commemorative Biographical Records of Rock, Green, Grant, Iowa, & Lafayette Counties, Wisconsin. Hiram and Elmira (Burdick) Goodrich migrated from New York to Wayne County, Penn. And thence to Indiana. There the family suffered greatly from sickness. Mrs Eastman's (Louisa) Grandfather Burdick had died in New York, and the grandmother accompanied her daughter Elmira and her son-inlaw Hiram to Pennsylvannia and Indiana, dying in the latter state as also did a brother of Mrs Eastman (Louisa), Owingto the sickness prevailing in the Hoosier state Mr goodrich moved his family to Linn County Iowa, and it was there Andrew Eastmans found and married the daughter, Louisa Maria. Mr and Mrs also came to Wisconsin shortly after the marriage of their daughter and settled in Lafayette County, where Mrs Goodrich passed away. Mr Goodrich later returned to New York state, there remarried, and went To California, but died on the day of his arrival in the Golden State.

Places of Residence: NY, Wayne co., Pa. 1829, Indiana, Linn county Iowa, Wi.

Florida USA - Sunday, June 20, 1999
I have been just browsing anything I see about Burdicks. Your page is just great. The history is fascinating, and it is easy to navigate.

I have reached a lull in researching all of my lines, so I have been starting on my husband's family. We believe his earliest Cardner ancestor, Barber Cardner, New York(Truxton County, we believe), was married to Polly Burdick. A relative gave me the name, but doesn't seem to want to share research. I told my husband not to push her. Some people are just like that.

If you ever turn one up in that area, let me know. It would have been late 1700's. Seems the Cardners also liked CT, RI, and NJ.

Thank you for a pleasurable experience reading about your family.
Sydney (feminine version of the name) Cardner

A 1000 apologizes for not having your link handy as I published the attached Web Page. I thought, however, that you might be interested in browsing though the page...so I'm sending a link along (see below). As I gain more confidence in web publishing...I'll go back and edit...and republish it with your link included (if it is OK with you.). If the link doesn't travel well, you can find my page on AOL's HOMETOWN site....The Running Head says something like.... "Wilkinson relatives remember one of their own... Bruce Remington Burdick of the American Civil War."

I think that we've written a few lines to one another...late last year regarding things Burdick. My Great Grandmother was the sister of the man highlighted on my page. Her name was Minnie Dora Burdick. She married Edwin Henry Wilkinson. Their son and his wife named my father after Bruce R. Burdick..(and dad's grandpop...Edwin Henry Wilkinson.)

My Burdick line of descent is..........Robert, Thomas, Robert, Daniel, Robert, Sanford, Harlow Merrill....(father of Bruce Remington and Minnie Dora). The family was basically living in the CT region until Harlow left with his Uncle Hobart and Aunt Polly .....and moved to Kalamazoo, MI. Harlow bought a lot of land in the area (I found bib. references to the deeds)....which he farmed. Bruce left for IA...died in the Civil War...his sister Minnie married Edwin...and became my gr grandparents.

By and by my family line moved toward the Detroit area....and I was raised in a small town between Detroit and Ann Arbor....called Belleville. Lived in the area until I went to college. Lived in Ann Arbor for a number of years...now live on the east coast.

Back to the Web Page.....Each piece of art has a midi file of Civil War music linked to it....(Being an infant at this publishing business....I have to apologize again ...for not yet knowing how to hide the midi files.) They will pop up as you click on the pictures. Either listen to the music...or browse while it plays...Just make sure that after listening to the musical piece...you go after the MIDI that will drop behind your screen...if you browse while it plays....Just minimize your screen....and "X" out to close the MIDI file before playing another tune. I think it could stress your system too much if you don't close the file before moving on.

With all these do's and don't .....I hope that I haven't completely turned you off.

Just want you to enjoy your tour through my Burdick page.

My maiden name was Burditt and my family came to MO in 1830 by way of KY from VA. The earliest ancestor that I have found is Humphrey Burditt who was with the Elk Creek militia in Grayson co VA in 1782. Do you have any records on these spellings and locations. They were in Franklin, Pittslyvania, and Henry counties in VA and in Bullitt, Garrard, and Spencer counties in KY to identify only a few of their locations. They seemed to be more interested in "populating the earth" than keeping records thereof.
Gary Arnold <gary_arnold@vtc.net>
Benson, AZ USA - Saturday, May 15, 1999
I am Gary Arnold and was told by Joann Herring that this list of Burdick E-mail. My g.g.great grandfather was a Luther Burdick who married Harriet Westate. I am not sure if "Westate" is correct. Luther's daughter Sarah married Hilon Duroy Peck. They had a daughter Sadie Jane who married a Holford. They in turn were my grandmother Pansy Jane Holford's parents. Pansy married Elmer Arnold and had one son, my father Lester Holford Arnold Sr.. My Aunt married a Clayton E. Burdick, father was Howard, grandfather was Fred.

I would like to obtain either GEDCOM data or Family Tree Maker file which contains information down to the present day. My uncle Clayton (Butch) Burdick has a book published in 1937 with the title "The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island" which was written by Nellie (Willard) Johnson in Norwich,NY. It has 1400 pages and Clayton is referenced in it. I found out it is in the Library of Congress catalog. I don't really know anything about my uncle Butch's family, but since his father's name was Howard? It would be something else for you to be closely related. I am attaching a min-biography to better introduce myself. I sent it to several of my cousins. The main point of this note is to see if you can provide any input for Family Tree Maker (or Family Origins) that would include more present day relative. Thank you.

[Note: If you would like to read Gary's bio, drop me an email -- it's quite a wonderful read!]

Dixie R.(Burdick) McCaig <mccaig@kans.com>
Burlington, KS USA - Friday, May 7, 1999
I have been trying to research the "Burdick" name for several years now and I am stuck in the process of getting back to where my g-grandparents were in Michigan. That is all I know about them is that they came to Iowa from Michigan and don't know the year that was either. My father was Francis R. Burdick, served in WWII, his father Frank R. Burdick, served in WWI and was killed there, his father Charles William Burdick, worked for the BO&Q Railroad as a switchman sometime in the late 1800's and early 1900's, he died in Des Moines, Iowa in 1905. According to the 1900 census from Iowa he had a wife named Ida and three sons Earl who was born in Michigan and don't know what became of him, Edward born in Iowa was told he was killed in a train accident in Kansas, but have not been able to come up with anything on him yet either, then my grandfather Frank born in Iowa and died in France. I do not have any idea what happened to Ida either. I never knew about my grandfather having any brothers, and apparently they died before my grandfather did. Anyone who might have any information on these "Burdicks" I would like to hear from and I will be happy to share the rest of the information I have with you, also. Thank you!

Brittish Columbia, Canada - Wednesday, May 5, 1999
I original came from Alberta, Canada and moved to British Columbia, Canada My father was Paul Burdick and him and Mom (Pauline Kraft) had nine daughters and four sons. There are nine of us left. Two boys and seven girls. Dad's family moved from Nebraska in 1919 and settled in Benalto, Alberta, Canada. His family consisted of three boys and four girls. They were Clayton Alvin, Lynn Seldon, Alfred Paul (my dad), Maude Ethel, Mary Caroline, Bessie Mable, and Sarah Josphine. Their parents were William Seldon and Ruth Holdsworth. William's siblings were John Sherman, Frank, James, Daniel and Cynthia. Their father was Benjamin Franklin who's family consisted of Susanna, Lodema and Hanna Catherine. Benjamin's father was Esquire Seldon who's brothers and sisters were Erastus Clark, William Henry McGruder, John Green, Irena Experience, Delana Hann, Loretta Abagail Jane and Hannah Catherine. Their father was David S. Burdick.

That is about as far back as I am able to go. I think my cousin Lloyd from Sylvan Lake, Alberta has been able to go back a bit farther than this. I would really like to hear from any relatives that are decendents of this branch of the family.

I would love to hear from anyone who might be a descendent of any of these Burdicks.

Brian W. Burdick <burdick@nwlink.com>
Bellevue, WA USA - Monday, May 3, 1999
My name is Brian Burdick. My father is Carl M. Burdick (Jr.). We were both born in Seattle, WA.

I am researching my surname and have come to dead end so to speak. My grandfather Carl Miller Burdick MD was born in Gettysburg, South Dakota on 12/24/85. I have tried to get a birth certificate on my grandfather Carl, but it appears that he is not in the SD public records.

His father's name was Frank Walter Burdick, who was born in 1852 in Wisconsin. Unfortunately I don't have a city or county to go on for him.

Frank W. Burdick's father was supposedly Jared Burdick (from NY) and Jared's father was supposedly a Joseph Burdick (from RI). I don't have any confirmation on this yet.

This may be the same trail that you have already been down. I would truly appreciate any information or cross references, even educated guesses as to the birthplace of Frank Walter Burdick in Wisconsin, or any of his ancestors.

I recently discovered that my GG grandmother on my mother's side was Mary Ann Burdick of Almond, NY. Her father was William Burdick of Rhode Island. From William the lineage goes Daniel, William, Benjamin and Robert, the original Burdick of Rhode Island. I picked up all this information from "The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island" that I found in the library at the State University of NY at Alfred, Allegany County, NY. Mary Ann married William Wallace Carman and moved to Wisconsin where it appears she died before the end of the century. I read that Daniel Burdick was a revolutionary war soldier, but have been unable to document that fact yet. Anyone have knowledge of his service?

I've just finished reading on your site on the Burdick Family....I wonder if you are related...My Mom was Gladys Burdick from Clintonville Wis. Her dads name was Ed Burdick. and someone in the family has the complete family tree all the way back to the Plymouth Colony. Last Mom knew, one of her cousins on the Sassman side had it and would'nt give it up to be re-recorded. That is all I know of the Burdicks as I have just touched on them so little....Been busy with the McEwings of Canada. I can relate some of the stories to you as told to me by Mom if you wish...thats all I have.

I have the genealogy clear back to the High Kings of Scandinavia. My mother always stated that the original name was Burdett. Bless her. She passed away this past Sept and I dont know if she retained the information I told her or not. She said that the original family tree was in the hands of the Sassman family from the Black Creek- Appelton WI area. She was quite upset as they would NOT allow her to see the document...figures hey? Her maiden name was Gladys Burdick from Clintonville WI and her father was Edward Royal Burdick.

My older brother is Thomas Burdick Frank III. My Dad is Thomas Burdick Frank Jr. and my grandfather is Thomas Burdick Frank. His parents were Elizabeth Burdick and J. Ludwig Frank. Both my grandfather and father are deceased. My grandfather always talked about how the Burdicks were all related and how we fought in every war since the American Revolution. I know there was a Burdick relation in the Union Army during the Civil War-he was in the Navy. I do not know his name-but my grandfather donated several items to the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. I remember a sword and a marksmanship trophy. My great-grandfather J. Ludwig came here from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He was a musician and in 1874 was elected to fill the chair as Instructor of music in the public schools of Newport, R.I. He stayed there for 15 years. I do not know where nor when he married Elizabeth Burdick. I do not know her parents names either, although I do know she died in 1939 and is buried somewhere in Newport. In 1889, they moved to Iowa and my great grandfather became a Director in the Conservatory of Music at Tabor College. Two years later, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where J. Ludwig founded "The Lincoln College of Music." Elizabeth is listed as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Lincoln College of Music. I have a college catalog for this school which is where I got this information.

The college no longer exists and I have not been able to find out much about it. My grandfather, Thomas Burdick Frank, was born in Lincoln, Neb. He lived for a time in Michigan and Indiana. He was an amateur magician and used the stage name of Burdick Frank. He met my grandmother in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her name was Gertrude Burch Herminghausen. My grandfather was an accountant, but he had lots of hobbies and interests. He was a photographer, and had two books published. One was called "Cincinnati, the Queen City", and the other "Roaming the States." My father, T. Burdick Frank Jr. was born in Cincinnati, but when he turned five, the family moved to Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. My older brother and myself were raised by my grandparents on Long Island. My father remarried and had four boys. Two of them have the middle name of Burdick.

If someone can help me with any information about Elizabeth Burdick and J. Ludwig Frank, I would be most grateful. I have enjoyed reading about all the other Burdicks. I just wish there were someone left in the family or elsewhere that could shed some light on this part of the family tree. Thanks for your help.

Like most of you I am trying to get past a dead-end on a genealogical line. My great-Grandfather was Wilbur Edwin Howard, who married Mary Gleason Burdick. I have no other information about them, but based on naming conventions, I suspect that Mary Burdick's parents were a Burdick-Gleason marriage. Anyone out there have Mary Gleason Burdick (born in 1870s) or a Burdick-Gleason marriage in their records? If so, e-mail me at tculler@ncfweb.net Thanks for any help, and thanks to Howard for this page!

He was born in 1884 and died in December 1967. Robert was married to Mary Alice Smith. If you have any information please contact me.

I am impressed and encouraged to see so many Burdicks on the Internet. My father, who no doubt will email you with more comments/questions, has worked exhaustively on Burdick genealogy for 30 years or so but I found this website first so here 'tis...

Robert of Rhode Island, according to my father's research, was born son of Robert and Dorcas Lewis of England. Dorcas' father was named John Lewis. No other info. Robert of R.I.'s wife Ruth, of course, was the daughter of Samuel Hubbard, b. 1610 Mendelsham, Co. Suffolk, England, whose parents were James and Naomi Cocke Hubbard, son of Thomas Hubbard and daughter of Thomas Cocke. My lineage is as follows:

Thomas Burdick, (1656-6/1732)(b. prob. Newport, RI-d. Stonington,CT) m. Martha ? abt. 1690

Capt. Samuel Hubbard Burdick, (abt. 1700-btw. 1772-1778) m. 11/5/1731 Avis Maxson (2nd cousin) (12/27/1712-?)(b.Westerly, RI)

Abraham Burdick, (6/16/1737-1791)(b. Stonington, CT) m. 1759 Amy Brown (17__-3/21/1787)

Ethan Burdick, (1/20/1773-3/24/1848)(b. Stonington, CT-d. Canastota, NY) m. 3/18/1778 Mary (or Polly) Rogers (8/12/1778-12/24/1841)(RI-Brookfield, NY)

Nelson Burdick, (4/21/1810-3/24/1842)(Brookfield, NY-Croton Dam, NY) m. Maria Hoxie

George Burdick, (4/24/1838-4/5/1925)(W.Edmeston, NY-Clinton,NY) m. 10/22/1860 Mary Farley (8/14/1837-4/18/1907)(Co. Meath, Ireland-Clinton, NY)

Daniel H. Burdick, (12/11/1877-11/ /1958)(Westmoreland, NY-Clinton, NY) m. 6/27/1900 Jennie I. Blake (1878-11/ /1971)(Clinton, NY-Clinton, NY)

John W. Burdick, (8/6/1912- )(Clinton, NY) m. 10/24/1936 Catherine M. Gaffney (4/4/1911-2/ /1998) (Clayville, NY-Clinton, NY)

John P. Burdick, (1/8/1938- )(Clinton, NY) m. 6/30/1962 Carol M. Duffy (12/22/1934- ) (Watertown, NY)

John Duffy Burdick, (3/28/1963- ) (Cleveland, OH) m. 9/7/1991 Dawn C. Bodine (7/1/1963- ) (Highland Park, IL)

Carl Walsh "Calle" Burdick, (9/11/92- )(Chicago, IL) John Niall Burdick,(10/11/1996- )(Chicago,IL)

How our Burdick branch came to settle in Clinton, NY is somewhat interesting. My g.g.g.grandfather Nelson, while living and farming in Brookfield, took a job building the Croton-on-Hudson dam but caught pneumonia and died there, leaving a widow & children. His widow, Maria, married a man named Brown who upon my g.g.grandfather George's 14th birthday, gifted him with a cow and told him to make his way in the world.(Stepfather Brown was apparently later killed in the Civil War). George, being a Burdick and too clever to trade his cow for magic beans instead walked the 15-20 miles to Clinton where he found work and lodging on the Harding farm. (The Hardings are ancestors of U.S. soccer star Alexis Lalas). George married an immigrant Irish Catholic girl named Mary Farley who cleaned homes for Hamilton College professors.

Mary converted George from protestantism to Roman Catholicism and each of my subsequent ancestors married Irish Catholic women which is why my immediate family consider ourselves Irish (although my wife is Swedish-Scotish-Protestant). I have also heard about Jewish Burdicks which I think is a great testament to the family trait of following the dictates of one's conscience.

Anyway, George's son Daniel H. began business life by selling insurance but in 1914 began selling cemetary memorials and, through four generations, Daniel H. Burdick & Sons has become the largest retailer of cemetary memorials in Central New York. My brother Tim continues that tradition. I myself am a high school social studies teacher with a keen love of local history and Burdick geneaology.

I've enjoyed returning to this website several times and look forward to reading more from other Burdicks around the country/world and also giving my father a chance to share his research. Best Wishes and God bless all Burdicks.

This is great! This is also very interesting. I have been researching my gggrandfather Hiram Hicks and have found out that he might have came from the Hicks in Rhode Island. Tonight I decided to take a quick look around the net to see what there was on Hiram's wife, my gggrandmother Gemima Burdick and find from reading the white pages here that there is also a chance of her being descended from Rhode Island.

They show up in the 1850 census with seven children. I have not found any record of them being in Vermont before then. They 1850 census has them all listed as being born in Vermont, but I do not find any of them (yet) in any other census nor can I find a marriage record. Both the Hicks and the Burdicks had families that moved from RI to Clinton County New York and Chittenden County Vermont. It also raises the question if they were married in Rhode Island and moved to Vermont or New York first.

What makes this even more interesting is that I was born and live in Rhode Island not more than 20 minutes from where both families of Hiram Hicks and Gemima Burdick descendants might have come from.

This is what I have from the 1850 census of Chittenden County, Underhill Vermont, page 123: Hiram, 43; Gemima, 36; Nancy, 17; Joseph, 15; William, 14; Martha, 11; Edward, 8; and Olive, 5.

Any info would be appreciated.

I am trying to trace descendants of Flossie Burdick, nee Turner. She was the daughter of William John Turner, born in Madeley, Shropshire, England in 1859. He emigrated to the US when he was about 20 and was the eldest brother of my grandmother Lottie (married name Lloyd). William married in the US and had four children, Willard, Gailand, Flossie and Marjorie. The only one we have any trace of is Flossie, whose married name was Burdick. I remember my mother telling me that sometime in the 1970's a Mr. Carlton M. Burdick of New Milford, PA contacted our family in Shropshire. I have no further information as I have lived in Tunisia for nearly 30 years and do not have very much contact with my relatives in England except for my brother, who lives in Shrewsbury. If there are any Burdick or Turner relatives out there, I would like to hear from you. Many thanks.

My maternal grandmother is a Burdick. I "interviewed" her years ago for genealogical information and she showed me our Family Bible (which she is now unable to locate). My line is as follows:

1. Robert
2. Thomas
3. Robert
4. Matthew
5. Jedediah Jewett
6. Aaron Jewett
7. William Russell
8. Harrison Russell
9. Helen Ruth Burdick (my grandmother)

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I may get a hold of the Burdick Book by Nellie W. Johnson I would appreciate it. I am currently working on tracking down my lineage from my grandmother's husband - whose line is said to go back to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Govenor of Maryland and signer of the Declaration of Independence. I would love to get e-mails from fellow Burdicks!

We are Burdicks of the Western States. We descend from John Burdick, born 5 Apr 1885 in Spring City, Sanpete, Utah; son of Moses Leonidus Burdick, born 1853 in Pleasant Grove, Utah; son of Lutellus Burdick, born 16 Dec 1830 in Jamestown, New York; son of Alden Burdick, born 12 Sept 1803 in Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York; son of Gideon Burdick, a Revolutionary War Soldier, born 6 Nov 1762. We have life histories on most ancestors up to Alden and are looking for any supplemental information. We have found our connections with the original Rhode Island Burdicks. We are willing to share our information and would like to trade with others. We enjoy reading about the lives of our ancestors in addition to finding names and dates of people and events.

I am the daughter of a member of the original "Burdick Family Band". My father and all of his siblings--parents too--were popular musicians in the Western States. They performed with numerous movie stars, at Knotts Berry Farm, at rodeos, and on well over 100 various television programs. They performed with people like Jim Reeves, Gene Autry, on old "Leave It To Beaver" shows,... etc. My father has been performing with the violin ever since he was four years old. Now he is in his 60's. They played every kind of instrument imaginable. My Uncle Larry even did one man band performances. Anyway, I thought it might be fun to scan some photographs from back when they were heavily performing. Some are autographed by famous people and some have the Burdick Family Band pictured with famous people.

Elaine (Larson) Veloz <fmichael@gte.net>
Los Gatos, CA USA - Sunday, January 10, 1999
My name is Elaine (Larson) Veloz, and I am most interested in finding out more about my great-grandmother, Anna Maria Burdick's family. She was the daughter of Nathan Crandall Burdick and Helen Hawley Burdick. She was born in Dixon, Ill. and had 2 sisters, Bertha, who married John Roberts and Minnie, who married an Axe, and one brother, Nathan Charles Burdick, whose daughter, Nell, married Floyd Christensen. She married A.T. Mundorff and had two daughters, Nellie Mae (my grandmother), and Katie, who died in childhood. She also had two sons, Howard and Lloyd, but neither one had children. Nathan Crandall's father was Nathan Curtis, born in Worcester, Mass. His father was Urbana Burdick, born in Hopkinton, R.I. His wife was Ruhama Burdick, who was the daughter of Jonathan Burdick, also born in Hopkinton, R.I. His father was Thomas, also born in Hopkinton; his father was Edmund, born in Westerly, RI; his father was Thomas, born in Westerly, his father was also Thomas, born in Newport, RI, and he was the first son of Robert and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick. Urbana's father was Zaccheus who was the son of Thomas and Dorothy Maxson Burdick, and that Thomas was the son of Samuel and Mary Foster Burdick. Samuel was Robert Burdick's second son. So, it seems I'm descended from two of "the Emigrant's" sons. I would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who is descended from the Illinois or Kansas Burdicks (Nathan and descendants)but will be glad to exchange information with anyone interested. I live in Los Gatos, California and my e-mail address is fmichael@gte.net.
