Hopefully, I have found a link I thought impossible to find! My paternal grandmother who has been gone for 26 years was a Burdick. I have very little information on my dad's side, and since I am the last of that line, information is not easily found. I remember my grandmother telling me OUR family history was in the Seattle, Wn. library and if I ever became interested in it (family history) I could locate it there...........many years have past and in the last decade I have became interested. If you have any information on Sylvia Burdick (SS 539-20-3423) born in North Dakota, October 31, 1902 to Charles Burdick and Marie Colling I would be very grateful. Sylvia married Raymond Gordon Dixon and had two sons Clifford Raymond and Richard Gordon, Richard was born I believe 2 years before my dad. My dad was born in Chicago, IL. January 16, 1928. Died in Mesa, AZ. October 22, 1993. It would be wonderful to find out if Sylvia had siblings and If I had some relatives out there that knew this family, my father did not raise me and I only saw my grandparents (divorced long before I came along) once. I was impressed to see in print that all the Burdick's are related, my husband's family has the same history. Thank you for any information you are willing to share.

I have been trying to put together a genology for my children, combining the oral history and proven facts so that they can pass it on.

My great-grandmother was Helen Elisabeth Kenyon who married a doctor named Wm. Yingling and moved to Kansas. Helen's mother was a Burdick. Sarah Burdick was her name and I do not know if she had siblings.

She moved to Kansas with her husband mr. Kenyon at the same time Helen( her daughter) did. She and her husband invested their wealth into a cattle ranch and lost their shirts. I don't know what happened to them then.

I have a hand scratched letter, very old, written by Helen's sister Emily. This document makes an attempt to record family history due to Helen being forgetful about it and Emily trying to refresh her memory. According to Emily, their mother Sarah Burdick was the daughter of a John Clark Burdick and Mary Srivares. This John Clark was the son of and named after a revolutionary war hero also John Clark Burdick. This John was reported, by Emily as having died in that war when disembowled by a cannon ball.

Besides Emily and Helen, Sarah Burdick-Kenyon had children named ...Walton, James Jr, Ruey, and Gorby.

I am a member of the Daughter's of the Am. Rev. and tried to find his name in their records. I could not.

Have you ran across these names? I really want to connect these names with factual dates and to also learn the name of the first John Clark Burdick's wife.

Your material mentioned that Burdicks were in the Rev. war. Could you share their names with me?

I really enjoyed your history page. Helen and Emily always claimed to be desendents of the May Flower settlements. Were there any Burdicks from this beginning or were any married to wives who connect with these May Flower colonies?

I am researching my husband's family, which includes the ancestors and descendants of Rebecca Burdick Winters. I know a lot of research has been done on that line, thanks to Augusta Winters Grant and the LDS Church. Rebecca figures prominently in my husband's family and the LDS Church history because she died on the trek to Salt Lake City. The story about her burial site is quite remarkable and I have a lot of information regarding it. I am very interested in the many Burdick branches, especially the female lines. Thanks so much for doing this web page. You have compiled information in a way that is wonderful to share with other family members.

I am a Burdick descendant, through the maternal side of my Grandfather, Clare Wilkinson. My father was named after a well loved Burdick family member who died during the Civil War. I'm very glad to have found this family web site. Would love to hear from other Burdicks and am eager to learn more.

I originally hail from southeastern MI. Was born and lived there until I was about 30 years old. Went to Eastern Michigan University and hold a BS in Psy. and Marketing. Was a Social Work Administrator until reordering my career goals about 3 years ago. Now work for an AT&T spin off company.....as an administrator for Healthcare Benefits Consultants.

My late Grandfather Wilkinson's maternal grandmother was Viola Minerva Burdick Willson, daughter of Harlow M. Burdick and his wife Sarah Miranda Millar. Harlow Burdick moved to the Kalamazoo area of MI in the early 1800's...where he settled a farm on the Kalamazoo River south of Augusta.

The family story is that my Burdick descendants lived in CT until 1819, when they relocated to Sullivan, Madison Co., NY. Harlow was born on 11/05/1814. When he was 19, he moved to MI with his Uncle Hobert and Aunt Polly with a horse and ox team. They traveled by boat from Buffalo to Detroit, eventually settling along the Kalamazoo River.

I have a copy of a letter written/signed by Sandford, Abigail and Harlow Burdick from NY....written the winter before they left for MI...discussing their plans and the others that had left ahead of them for MI....who they would be joining.

My father was named after a well loved Burdick family member named Bruce Remington Burdick. (See generation #8 below.) Bruce Burdick was my gr gr grandmother (Viola Minerva Burdick Willson's elder brother.

Bruce Burdick moved to Iowa prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. He was originally a schoolteacher in Kalamazoo County, MI. Eventually he moved to Howard Center, Howard Co., Iowa, where he took up land & was engaged to Marion Stewart.

In 1863, he enlisted in the Union Army, 7th Iowa Infantry, Co. B. On July 28, 1864 he was killed in the battle of Kenesaw Mt. ...outside of Marietta, GA. He is buried in Marietta, GA in the National Cemetery, Section H, grave 950.

I am related to Robert Burdick by the following line of descent:

1. Robert
2. Thomas
3. Robert
4. Daniel
5. Robert
6. Sanford
7. Harlow M. Burdick & Sarah Miranada Millar Burdick
8. Viola Minerva Burdick Willson & William Henry Harrison Willson (also Bruce Remington Burdick)
9. Minnie Dora Willson Wilkinson & Henry Edwin Wilkinson
10. Clare Wilkinson & Maybel J. Detroyer Wilkinson
11. Bruce Edwin Wilkinson & Joyce McKenna Watts Wilkinson
12. Bonnie Jill Wilkinson & Frederick A. Jahner
13. My two daughters...their husbands
14. My 6 grandchildren

What a joy to find so many Burdicks. I too am a decendant of Robert Burdick.

My line is as follows:
Robert and Ruth Hubbard Burdick m. Nov.02, 1655
Hubbard Burdick and Hanna Maxson
John Burdick and Elizabeth Babcock
Thompson Burdick and Tabitha Wilcox
Lucy Burdick and John Collins m. Dec. 1796
Any one who would like to contact me, I would love to hear from you.

We are from the "show me state" Missouri. My husband and I have been researching for years. We have managed to trace my roots back in some cases to the 1500's. A project we have loved doing together. Our kids, now grown have asked me many times, when we are going to quit, just how far back to you want to go?

I would laugh and tell them.......My grandfather,(mother's side) was a Cotten. My Grandmother (on my father's side) mother was a Cotten. Both families coming from complete different areas. I told my kids, when we connect the Cottens, I will quit. Glad I didn't promise. Though both families were many states apart, I have found that they both originate from the same county, in S. Carolina. In the same time frame. So, now a few trips to the archives, and a little hard work, I may be eating my words. Since most of you are geneaologists, I thought you would see the humor in this, as we did......the old saying goes.....It is a small world, after all.

i'm so grateful that i found your site today. i remember when the book was being written and nellie johnson wrote to mother for information about our family. money was very tight so dad and i bought mother the book as a gift. we,also, have the supplement which was typed on very poor paper by the students of norwich, ny high school. 1952-53

it's a mimeographed hard cover book by nellie johnson. i,also, have the family of blackleach burritt, jr. it had belonged to mothers grandmother and is autographed "with the compliments of your niece alice" it was written by dr alice burritt. mother pasted her obit in the front inside cover. it states that dr alice burritt was one of the leading physicians of wash. d.c. she died in 1921. the book was copyrighted in 1911. i have read a short bit of what you have written and there is more than i ever knew. mother lived with us for 10 yrs when we moved from nj to fl. for a while when i was on aol i started a search for burdicks. we did get some interest. mother died 4 yrs ago. she was so proud of being a burdick. (forgive me for not typing capital letters but my mind runs faster than my hands.)

we are in the big book page 923 under avery is mothers dad ralph thurston burdick. i forget what page my immediate family is on.

on the attenborough side, the first richard attenborough arrived in nottingham in the 1500's but they never found out where he came from. so richard and david attenborough are distant (far distant) cousins.

if i had known more about the book when i had children, i would have had one of the girls named TACY. i think thats a neat name.

hoping to hear from you,

Hi..I'm Sharon Burdick Burns from Wichita, Kansas. Even though I am a "girl" (I use the term loosely since I just had my 50th birthday) I trace back to James Hubbard and Naomi Cocke parents of Samuel Hubbard who married Tasy Cooper. They had a daughter Ruth Hubbard.

Robert Burdick married Ruth Hubbard 11-2-1658
Benjamin Burdick married Mary Reynolds abt. 1698
William Burdick married Sarah Edwards abt. 1741
Luke Burdick married Sarah Haskel 11-8-1772
Jason Burdick married Susannah Peckham 5-1-1809

Henry Egbert Burdick married Christina Yager 1881
John Hancock Burdick married Mary Rose Klakring 8-10-1905
Ralph Eugene Burdick married Ellen Todd 10-15-1942
They had three children, Connie, Sharon (that's me), and Jerry.

Connie has no children. I have one child, Kristina Reese-Spencer. Jerry has two children, Rachel and Jeremy. Kristina has three girls, Amanda, Emily, and Victoria. Rachel Swartz has two children, Jacob and Nicholas. Jeremy has one son, Stephen. My father and his father had a lot of children. I grew up with many cousins, aunts, and uncles. However, we had two cousins, Karen and Debbie, who we lost track of after their father, Kenneth's death in 1968. At the time of his death they lived in New York. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me at burns@feist.com.

While my very brief Biography, one of several of my links, gives you some background on me, more is also found in Frank's Burdick book, concerning my father, the late Usher Lloyd Burdick, and my brother, the late Quentin Northrop Burdick, as well as me. All of us are also in Who's Who in America or Who was Who in America with respect to their demise.

I am retired from public schools, having served 30 years as a Social Studies, History, and the last half of my career as a Library Media Specialist. I now do pretty much as I please, and what please me is genealogy. My mother's parents, Alfred Holmes and Cora May Brown Beach published for many years, The Beach Family Magazine. My father's father, Augustus R. Markle after working as a blacksmith, when electricity came on the scene, learned that trade and became a charter member of I.B.E.W., and for more than thirty years, wrote articles on Local History and Genealogy in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star newspaper. He was also an active genealogist. I never thought there was much for me to do on my family, but when I was in Salt Lake City in 1979 for the NCAA Men's Basketball Finals, I spent and hour in the LDS Library and discovered things my collective grandparent genealogists knew and got hooked. Now my wife, Marthann Bush, bills me as an authority on both genealogy and our families. She defines an authority as, "Someone who can tell you more than you want to know about a subject." My BURDICK descent:

Robert and Ruth Hubbard
Hubbard and Hannah Maxson
Hubbard Jr and Avis Lewis
James and Phoebe Choate Smith
Abigail and Levi Lawrence
Susannah H Lawrence and Comfort Sage
Lucinda Sage and Calvin James Brown
James Emerson Brown and Sarah Ann Nunn
Cora May Brown and Alfred Holmes Beach
Mary Elizabeth Beach and Richard Theodore Markle
James Richard Markle and Marthann Bush
Melissa Yvonne Markle and Jay Bradley Thompson
Madeline Anne Thompson

Maddie just started kindergarden this fall, and is the only one who doesn't roll her eyes when grandpa starts telling her about those who contributed to her gene pool. I will provide an ahnentafel for anyone requesting it, it contains mucho early New England surnames.

Nora Rhodes (1869) m. Willard Campbell
Elizabeth Graham (1832) m. John Rhodes

My name is Nancy and maybe you can help me. My father was Charles Welson Burdick born in Jackson Michigan in May of 1916. His father was electrocuted on the job around 1918. I don't even know his name, his mother's name was Mable who I think was an orphan. She then married a man named Thomas Byrd who later changed his name to Burt and adopted my father when he went into the Air Force in 1942. Where can I go from here? My 11th Great Grandfather was Captain Miles Standish of the Mayflower (on my Mothers side) and the Burdick name is connected to the Standish family. No wonder we are all related. Hoping to hear from you. I live in Torrance, California and was born in 1941.

I am looking for additional information on Reuben BURDICK, b: c1791 in New York. He married Elizabeth DINWIDDIE (b: 1800-1810 in VA) on 2/21/1825 in Union Co., OH. He appears on the 1820 Union Co., OH census, the 1830 Madison Co., OH census and then the 1840, 1850, 1860 Gallatin Co., IL census records. One of his eight children, Hannah, b: 12/29/1835 married John NIX on 1/24/1856 in Gallatin Co., IL. His other children were Mary, Martha, Reuben, Sarah, Lucinda, Adella and Carpenter. Any information on his family would be much appreciated.

I've been researching family surnames for over twenty-five years. My father's cousin, Ruth Burdick had a book of Burdicks. But she would not loan it to me. She had loaned it to some family member years before and that person had made notes in the margins and she was reluctant to loan it after that. She died a few years ago and I believe her nephew has the book now. She sent me this information:

1. Robert and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick
2. Robert and Rebecca (Foster) Burdick
3. Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Steward) Burdick
4. Zera and -----(Willard) Burdick
5. Ebenezer and Jemima (Crandall) Burdick
6. William and Cynitha (Crandall) Burdick
7. Ozias and Lucy (Farnum) Burdick

I am going to order the Burdick Book. Have wanted a copy for years. I am interested in tracing Lucy Farnum Burdick Her mother was Patty (Weston) Farnum. Weston goes back to (I hope) Thomas Weston that "character" who found merchants in London to finance the Pilgrims venture to the new world. I'm a descendant of six of those passengers but not through the Burdick line.

I am part of the 12th generation descendants of Robert and Polly (Fuller) Burdick of Rhode Island. However, the Burdick surname disappeared from my family lines in the 8th generation. That connection is listed on page 1004, person number 2746, Mary Elizabeth Burdick. She married Amos Carver. I descend from their son Charles Carver. Charles Carver was my great-grandfather.

My grandfather was a Burdick. Harry Burdick was his name, born in 1898. His father was either Myron or John Burdick. The other name being his grandfather's. His mother was half Native American; do not know her maiden name. Apparently the Burdick family disowned their son when he married and "Indian". They later divorced and my grandfather was raised by his mother and stepfather (Gardner - last name). The Burdick family did not associate with my grandfather, although he did occasionally see his father and grandfather. My grandfather was born in either NY or PA. He married Laura Cunningham from PA and moved to Rochester, NY. Laura's descendents are surnames of Finch and Trim. Harry and Laura had 5 children - Hugh, Esther (my mother), Doris, Louis, Gerald. I am just starting to research my Burdick family tree. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Ran across your site while surfing last night. It was great. Yes I have a book which was presented to my father by Nellie for his help. He is the Carl L.Burdick listed in the forword.

It should read Carl C. but then there are hundreds of small errors in the book. My copy of the book is filled with hundreds of hand writen notes since Dad was constantly updating. I wish he could have lived in our computer world.

He was the only one in his family to have a son and I was was constantly made aware of the fact that our branch of the family rested in my hands. As it turned out he lived to see his five grandsons. If I can be of any help feel free to contact me. Carl C. Burdick, Jr (10th Generation)

I am the third Clint Burdick although my father and grandfather have different middle names. I was surprised to see that tradition in other Burdick lines. My father was born in Utah but I'm not sure where my grandfather was born. My grandfather, C. Mitchell Burdick was born in 1900, which made it easy to figure how old he was. I have never met another Burdick face to face. It is amazing how many of us are out there.

I too can trace my lineage back 11 generations to Robert Burdick. The Burdick name stopped in our family two generations ago, with Vincent Hale Burdick, Jr, who has no children (though he is still alive). My sister and I have been working on this geneology project for a couple of years, but not very actively. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has traced th line futher back then Robert Burdick. This is what I have up until that point:

Robert Burdick (b.1630) married Ruth Hubbard
Samuel Burdick (b.1667?) married Mary Foster
Thomas Burdick (b.1700) married Dorothy Maxson
Thomas Burdick (b.1725) married Abigail Allen
Gideon Burdick (b.1762) married Catherine Robertson
Alden Burdick Sr. (b. 1803) married Jerusha Parks
Alden Burdick Jr. (b.1934) married Alzina Shepherd
Edwin Burdick (b.1859) married Viola Tidwell
Vincent Burdick (b.1894) married Sarah Barnes
Viola Burdick (b.1921) married Jesse Williams
Margaret Williams (b.1947) married Kenneth Doran
Sarah Doran (b.1973) married Jonathan Miller

Robert Winston Burdick <RWB1948@aol.com>
Denver, Colorado USA - Saturday, March 1, 1998
Greetings from Robert Winston Burdick, 11th generation descendant of Robert Burdick of Rhode Island. I am a newspaperman, editor of Denver's Rocky Mountain News. I was born in Jacksonville, Fla. Here is how I am related to America's original Robert Burdick (birthdates and birth places, if known, are in parentheses):

1. Robert Burdick of Rhode Island (16??, England)
2. Thomas Burdick 1656?, probably Newport, R.I)
3. Thomas Burdick (1695, Westerly, R.I.)
4. Simeon Burdick (before 1727, probably Westerly, R.I.))
5. Deacon Jonathan Burdick (1767, Westerly, R.I.)
6. Enos Peckham Burdick (1797, Newport, R.I.)
7. Russell Wesley Burdick (1821, Preston, N.Y.)
8. Elisha Alonzo Burdick (1858, Alfred, N.Y.)
9. Maxon Sinclair Burdick (1897, Live Oak, Fla.)
10. Winston Sinclair Burdick (1917, Live Oak, Fla.)
11. Robert Winston Burdick (1948, Jacksonville, Fla.) [me]
12. David Winston Burdick (1983, Boulder, Colo.) [my son]

You have put together a wonderful family site, and I am most appreciative. If anyone has tried to track Robert Burdick of Rhode Island back into England, I would love to know the details, even if they are nothing but blind alleys. Also, has anyone put together an informal tourguide of Rhode Island to help enable family members to retrace some of the footsteps? Thank you. Bob Burdick burdick@denver-rmn.com or RWB1948@aol.com

My maiden name was Burdick. My father was Walter Clark Burdick & grandfather Rowland Stoddard Burdick. Grandpa always claimed he was the 3rd of three Rowlands in a row "although we all had different middle names." I'm trying to confirm Grandpa's parents. He was born in 1892, probably in NY State (best guess in Chenango or Madison Counties). My father's middle name supposedly came from an uncle but I'm unsure whether first name or surname of Clark. My father had a sister and brother but their generation "daughtered out" so their are no further Burdicks our end. Thanks to anyone who can shed any light.
