Whilst I enjoyed your homepage I understand that
many of the facts are obscure and that we cannot be

the Burdicks were probably an impoverished and
barbarous lot!!!!!

I'm searching for my Burdick roots. I am descended from Hannah (maiden name unknown) Burdick. She married an
unknown Burdick and lived in Almond, NY. Hannah was born in 1803 in Pennsylvania. She and Unknown had 5 children
Chauncy b. 1829; Caroline b. 1831; Mahetabel b. 4-15-1834 in Almond NY; James b. 1837 and Mary b. 1835. Mahetabel
(nicknamed Hettie) married Daniel Brokaw on 10-23-1850, she died in Hornell NY 8-20-1921. In the 1850 Almond census
Hannah was listed as head of household - occupation farmer and real estate valued at $1080.
Apparently Unknown had died before this. Hettie and Daniel had 8 children: Catherine Jane b. 1851, Almond NY;
Lydia Lucretia b. 1853, Almond NY; Hannah Marietta b. 1855, Almond NY; Carolina Maria b. 1857, Almond NY; Mahetabel B.
b. 1860; Daniel Lawrence b. 1865, d. 1857; Rosie Elvaretta b. 1869, Almond NY; Amos Monroe b. 1872, Almond NY.
Amos is my ggrandfather. He married Lena Higgins 11-21-1874 and he died 11-11-1937. I'd surely appreciate any
info available on Hannah and Unknown - when did the move to NY? Which branch of Burdicks are they from? Please
email any responses to me at Lornt513@aol.com. Thanks, Linda

Frank R. Burdick was one of my maternal great-grandfathers. He was born 10 May 1885 in Hampton, Windham County, CT. and died in the 1960's (I'm not sure of the date) in Waterford, New London County, CT. He married Sarah Hannah Clark on 7 July 1907, and they had two children: Francis Clark Burdick, b. 12 July 1909, and Bertha Melissa Burdick (my grandmother), b. 27 May 1912. I have no information on Frank R. Burdick's parentage, and so I was wondering if anyone who has "The Descendants of Robert Burdick of Rhode
Island" could tell me if his name appears there, or if you could refer me to someone who does lookups. Since this side of my family lived in eastern Connecticut right up to the present, i have to assume that my Burdicks are connected to the R.I. Burdicks. I would love to hear from anyone who might be able to help me. Thank you!

Hi,
I happened upon your web page while I was looking for online information about my one of my great-grandfathers, Frank R. Burdick. He was born in Hampton, Connecticut on 7 July 1907. I'm assuming that he was related to the Rhode Island Burdicks, although I don't have any ancestral information on his family line. His wife (my great-grandmother) was Sarah Hannah Clark. Any information about Connecticut Burdicks? If so, I would love to find out anything you may have. Meanwhile, I'll continue my search!

Her parents were Orrin Sylvester Burdick and Mercy Jane Greely. The family moved to Mower County, MN before 1870. Hattie Mae first married Leonard Anibal (three children: Minnie, Dean and Ray) divorced him, and in 1900 married my greatgrandfather, Ruger Miller. Although not a Burdick by name, I am descended from Hubbard Burdick, one of the sons of Robert and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick. Lydia Burdick, a 5th generation descendant of Hubbard's, married Joseph E. Lee, a Methodist preacher in Erie County, Pennsylvania, and one of their eight offspring was my great-grandfather. According to my information, Robert Burdick's wife, Ruth Hubbard, was the daughter of Samuel Hubbard (who came to N.A. in 1634) and the grandaughter of James and Naomi (Cocke) Hubbard, and the great grandaughter of Thomas Hubbard of Mendalsham, England. There is supposedly a link between Thomas Hubbard and a Thomas Higbed of Essex who was burned at the stake in 1555. I would like to hear from anyone who could confirm or debunk the the existence of this link.

Hello, my name is William E. Burdick Jr., son of William E.
Burdick Sr. and Jane Marie (Menard) Burdick of 44 Bellevue
Avenue, Adams, MA. I was born in Adams, MA on April 15 1954,
the second of four children (Linda, William, Ronald, Mark) born
to my parents. I am married (1974) to Marcia Ann (Lazarczyk)
Burdick, formerly of of Cheshire, MA. We've lived in the
Capital District area of NY since moving here in 1976.
I am employed as an electrical engineer at General Electric's
Corporate Research and Development Center in Schenectday, NY.
My technical efforts are in the development of advanced electronic
packaging for electronic assemblies; I have authored many technical
papers on this subject and am a US patent holder.
In my free time, I host a weekly blues music show on college
radio station WRPI, Troy, NY, play tenor saxophone, am an amateur
photographer, and am a muscle car enthusiast (I own a 1971 Olds
442 W30). Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I am a cold weather enthusiast
i.e. I like it cold, period ... the colder the better (I wonder
if thats a family trait).
My father, is one of nine children (Robert, Paul, William, Gerald,
Lawrence Jr., Jack, Gertrude, Elizabeth, and Carol) born to Lawrence
Burdick Sr. and Helen (Reynolds) Burdick of North Adams, MA. It is
interesting to note that my father grew up in an area of North Adams
known as "Burdickville", so named because there were eleven Burdicks
living there. I believe "Burdickville" was never officially recognized
as a city environ but was commonly known to those who visited my
father's family there. My father and all of his siblings are still alive;
my father's parents are both deceased.
Relative to possible Burdick traits, all of my grandfather's sons have
had some form of early onset heart disease; my grandfather died at age
54 of the same condition. Also, many, if not all, of Lawrence and
Helen Burdick's descendants are of above average height. For example,
my father, my brother Mark, and I are 6'3", my brother Ron is 6'1" and
my sister is 5'10"; my mother is 5'2".
Howard, thanks for your efforts to assemble and publish the Burdick
White Pages. Very helpful in learning about the Burdick roots.

You have my sincere appreciation for putting together
this site. I was steered to it by my son, Jonathan,
whose own site is listed under Other Burdicks.
I am a 12th generation descendant of Robert Burdick of
Rhode Island through his son, Thomas (1656-1732). I
was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1937. I served for a number
of years in the navy, leaving it with the rank of Lt. in
1967. I am a graduate of the U. S. Naval Nuclear Power
School, Officer Course (1963). I have the following
degrees: AB (Miami of Ohio, physics, 1962) and AM, Ph. D.
(University of Cincinnati, mathematics, 1969 and 1973).
I taught mathematics at several universities and worked
in private industry and government. I retired from the
U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1995. Since then
I have been an individual stock trader and all-around
dilettante who is completely enjoying retirement. More
notable hobbies include creative writing, computer
technology, photography, and travel.
Besides Senator Burdick, I have run across the names of
three other Burdicks who, in minor ways, distinguished
themselves in the history of the United States; I am
interested in learning about others. I know there was
a Captain Burdick in the Revolutionary War, although I
have forgotten the particulars. A Lieutenant Burdick
was acknowledged in a report, by Brigadier General George
W. Morgan, describing action during the battle of
Chickasaw Bayou, Mississippi during the Civil War; cf.
p 436, Memoirs of General William T. Sherman, Literary
Classics of the United States, 14 East 60th Street, New
York, NY 10022, 1990. Last, there is the photograph
and mention of five kills credited to a WWI flying ace
named Burdick in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum,
Washington, D. C. The only other Burdicks I can think
of with any claim to fame are the writer Burdick (of the
Burdick/Lederer team) and one Hal Burdick, a guitarist
with Gene Autry's band.
Regards and thanks,
Gary Burdick
