Margaret Gleichmann

I don't remember much about my great-aunt Margaret, she passed away when I was only 4. I do remember my grandmother, Pearl, always speaking kindly of her sister.

When I was growing up we made regular visits to May and Lucille and, every once in while, Marion. I always enjoyed visiting Lucille and Elton, their son, Allen. He was older than me and was mentally challenged; I think Allen thought of me, in some respect, as his little brother. He was always showing me his possessions and talking about his work at a restaurant -- he was very proud of his accomplishments.

May was a different story. When I was old enough to figure it out, I realized that she lived with a man, Jake Pruitt. Jake was a car salesman and just about as much fun as you could imagine. May was always prim and proper. I don't know why they never got married. The funny thing, though, was my grandmother's way of explaining Jake -- he was always referred to as May's "border". It was a different time!
